Tebowing: Latest Craze Will Make the World Forget Planking

Perhaps one of the strangest fads in recent memory is the art of planking, where a person lies down flat on their face in awkward settings. Despite how incredibly fun that sounds (sarcasm), planking has been left begging thanks to a fourth-quarter comeback by "Tebowing."

As most football fans know, Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is a very religious individual. His parents were Christian Baptist missionaries in his younger years, he often ends his press conferences by saying "God bless" and he has a habit of kneeling in prayer, regardless of the situation.

Some creative fans have taken it upon themselves to create the art of Tebowing, in which people kneel in prayer in random locations and situations and post pictures of it on the Internet. The website Tebowing.com offers a precise definition for the art of Tebowing, as well.

While Tebowing may be a slight exaggeration of Tebow's prayer routine, the intention is clear. Some people either don't like or aren't impressed with Tebow's faith, so they feel the need to mock it. While I wouldn't go that far, I will admit that Tebowing is quite creative.

The main reason why Tebowing is far superior to planking, though, is that you can still look like a normal human being while breaking out a Tebow on a busy New York sidewalk. Onlookers may fear for your health if you're laying face down, but they might find you to be an admirable person if you're willing to engage in prayer in a public forum.

Tebowing is also much more subtle than planking, and it can be pulled off almost undetected. Say what you will about Tebow regarding his skill level or mechanics, but the only people who look at Kyle Orton as a cultural icon are the Geico cavemen. 

It remains to be seen what caliber of quarterback Tebow can become in the NFL, or if he can even remain in the league long-term. Regardless of what happens with Tebow the player, the act of Tebowing looks like it's here to stay for a long time.
