Week 8 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: Tim Tebow & 5 Players Who Will Fall Flat

Professor BushOct 27, 2011

Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos was a fantasy hero last week as he lead his team to a comeback victory against the Miami Dolphins. His late fantasy points might have also given you a comeback victory in your fantasy football league as well.

But one week's hero can be next week's goat, so you can't always just rely on recent stats to set your lineup for the week. You have to look at the opponent, the location of the game and the mood of the teams.

So with that in mind, here are this week's tips from the Professor of Fantasy Sports. These five players will disappoint you if you put them in your lineup. So you need to sit them and look for some better alternatives.

Larry Fitzgerald Against the Baltimore Ravens

1 of 5

Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals has been a power force at wide receiver in fantasy leagues over the past few years and might have led you to the championship of your league.

But the chemistry between Fitzgerald and Kevin Kolb just doesn't seem to have developed. Fitzgerald was limited to four catches in each of the last two games and has not had a touchdown in the last three.

This week Fitzgerald is up against a Baltimore Raven defense that should be in a foul mood in light of their unexpected loss last week. I see the Raven defense making things very uncomfortable for the Cardinals in general this week, and Kevin Kolb specifically.

I expect Fitzgerald's production to be low and would sit him if I have a decent alternative. If you don't have a good WR alternative, consider these waiver wire pickups.

Matt Schaub Against the Jacksonville Jaguars

2 of 5

Last week was very productive for Matt Schaub of the Houston Texans. He threw for 296 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Andre Johnson is expected to return to the lineup, so it is easy to get fooled into thinking that Schaub will have a great game this week.

However, the Jacksonville Jaguars defense now has believers after their mauling of the Baltimore Ravens last week.

Look for Schaub to have average, not great, stats this week. If your other QB has a good matchup, consider sitting Schaub this week.

Dez Bryant Against the Philadelphia Eagles

3 of 5

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what the Dallas Cowboys' game plan will be this week against the Philadelphia Eagles and their "always in the wrong place" linebacker corps:

1) Throw the ball to Jason Witten

2) Hand the ball off to DeMarco Murray

3) Run a two-tight end set and throw the ball to Martellus Bennet

4) Hand the ball off to Murray again

5) Repeat this until the Eagles figure out a way to stop this.

With the allegedly top-flight set of defensive backs that Eagles have, Dallas wide receivers will be decoys for most of the day.

Sit Bryant if you have a suitable WR alternative. If you do not, consider grabbing these players off the waiver wire.

Tim Tebo Against the Detroit Lions

4 of 5

Last week Tim Tebow threw for two touchdowns and ran in the two point conversion to give his fantasy owners a late game flurry of points. But that was against the Miami Dolphins.

This week he will face a real football team, the Detroit Lions, and I'm thinking that Mr. Suh will make Mr. Tebow understand that difference.

Sit Tebow if you have a reasonable alternative.

Phillip Rivers Against the Kansas City Chiefs

5 of 5

I didn't like what I saw from Phillip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers against the New York Jets last week.

The Chargers had a coast-to-coast flight home, and now another road trip to play the Kansas City Chiefs, who have risen from the dead with three consecutive victories.

I don't like this situation for Rivers; I would sit him this week. He might still be a little banged up from last week.
