Alabama Rolls To The Sugar Bowl against Utah: But is Bama to Cocky?

Joe Burgett Dec 10, 2008

As an Alabama Crimson Tide fan you want to see them do well. And seeing the Tide go 12-0 before their defeat to The Florida Gators was great, although it would have been better if they beat the Gators of course.

Now they go on to play Utah in the Sugar Bowl, and this is the first time they have been to a BCS Bowl game since Florida Coach Urban Meyer was there. This is kind of a coincidence when you think about it.

Alabama looks to be Rolling over Utah easily to every expert's opinion. And who can blame them?  Alabama was 12 points away from going to the National Championship game by beating Florida in the SEC Championship game.

They have the best offensive line in all of college football, and even pro-teams would like that line. They have the SEC's leading rusher, and a Quarterback who seemingly never makes a mistake.

You cannot forget about the defense either, which is statisticly one of the best in the nation. But it seems with all that said that they are a bit too cocky.

Sure Nick Saban talks about taking it a game at a time, or never taking your opponent for granted. But we all know that Alabama can get a bit too big for their shoes. Even though Utah is not the best team there is, they can be dangerous to the Tide.

I seem to remember a team by the name of Boise State who crashed the BCS Bowl picture a few years ago. They played Oklahoma and all the experts thought as they think about Utah, that they are going to get crushed.

But to their surprise, they held the running game in check and even got a good bit of offense going. One of the mot famous plays of all time, the Statue of Liberty, was in that game.

You can never count out an opponent in a game, especially an undefeated team in Utah. Sure they may not have played any real opponents, much less an SEC team. But you could say the same about Boise State when they beat Oklahoma.

We all saw how that turned out, a victory for Boise. I think that Alabama needs to remember that they have a mission. They have not been to a BCS Bowl Game in quite a while.

If they want to impress and show that possibly they could make a claim that they should be in the National Championship game and that they deserve it as much as the others, then they need to win big.

I don't see them getting a share of the National Championship, but who knows? I mean USC got to have a share of the title, why not Bama?

They have come a long way in just one season. And it is only the second year for Nick Saban down in Tuscaloosa, yet they were able to start and play more freshman than much of the country, and be No.1 for several weeks.

That is saying something. And they look to be dominate next year, but they need this game to secure momentum going into the off-season and Saban's legacy there. The man that was supposed to be the savior of the Tide, has done his job.

But you can never sleep on your opponent. So I see this game being closer than many think it will be. What do you think?
