BCS Rankings 2011: Kansas State Will Begin Free Fall out of Rankings This Week

Alex KayOct 27, 2011

The Kansas State Wildcats are currently 7-0 and have had a pretty magical season thus far, but that all ends this week.

K-State has only faced one ranked opponent this year, the No. 15 (at the time) Baylor Bears at home and they squeaked out of that game with a one-point victory.

Now the Wildcats have to go through an absolute gauntlet.

This week they host the No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners, who were recently upset by the Texas Tech Red Raiders (a team Kansas State has beaten) and could easily have their first loss by the end of the evening on Saturday.

Next Saturday, K-State travels to Stillwater to engage in battle with the No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys and I just don’t see any way they can win this game.

The Pokes are just so dominant on the offensive side of the ball that they will force the Wildcats to abandon their ground game as they put up points through the air very quickly.

This is not a good thing for Bill Snyder’s boys, as they possess the No. 19 ranked rushing offense in the country but only the No. 110 ranked passing game.

The last thing this team wants to do is get into a shootout with a team that averages 48.6 points per game, a number K-State has surpassed just once this season against a terrible Kansas program.

If the Wildcats do somehow get past OK State, they return to Manhattan to host No. 16 Texas A&M and then travel to Austin to face the No. 24 Texas Longhorns.

That is one of the more brutal four-week stretches I have seen in college football and it is a testament to the quality of play in the Big 12 this season.

Kansas State is a good football program, but they are just undefeated because of some lucky scheduling.

If they manage to navigate this next month without a loss, they are without a doubt the best team in the nation and more than deserve to play for a national championship.

I just can’t see it happening.
