BCS Rankings: LSU vs. Alabama Ruins Interest in Weekend's Marquee Games

There they sit, like two prima donnas taking all the thunder from the rest of the cast of characters. There is no way to fully enjoy this weekend's schedule of college football games when Alabama vs. LSU is so near. 

The BCS no. 1 LSU Tigers and no. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide are set for a November 5th clash that is going to be nothing short of epic. 

Both teams have earned their station in life. If there was such a thing as a mid-season championship, I would have no qualms about both programs being represented in the title game. 

There have been no better programs in the nation, and my only complaint is that this game comes in November, and not January. 

Sadly, we have a full week to wait for what should be the best game of the season. Nothing will satiate the masses that feed off such things. There is no. 11 Michigan State taking on no. 14 Nebraska. 

Can I really get up for a game including a team that lost to Notre Dame? Michigan State is that team that you know will let you down the second you begin to entertain thoughts of their grandeur. 

I guess there is no. 9 Oklahoma taking on no. 8 Kansas State to look forward to. However, the Sooners killed the intrigue of this game when they lost in epic fashion last weekend. 

Now I can't sit back and wonder if an upset is in store. The biggest upset of the year already took place. If Kansas State wins, ho-hum. If Oklahoma wins, yawn. 

That's about it for ranked teams facing one another. The national spotlight will shine brightly on some real snoozers. Notre Dame should demolish Navy, and USC will get annihilated by Stanford. 

I never want to tell you to keep your TV off on Saturday. That would be sacrilegious coming from such a fan. But if any weekend demanded it, it would be this one. 

Maybe I am jaded from the prospect that awaits us a week from now. There is no way you can get amped for games that fall so far short of what we will get when the defensive giants meet on the 5th of November. 

Fine. I will watch college football this weekend, but I don't have to like it.
