Anderson Silva's Coach Says Champ Is "Ready to Hurt Chael Sonnen Badly"

Be careful what you wish for.

For weeks, people have accused Anderson Silva of ducking Chael Sonnen, but according to Silva's coach, Josuel Distak, "The Spider" is prepared to close Sonnen's mouth for good.

"It's absurd to say Anderson is running away, especially after he submitted Sonnen with a broken rib," Distak told Sherdog.com.

"We haven't been notified of any fight, but Brazil and the world wishes to see it. If this fight ends up happening, he will hurt Sonnen so badly. It's up to [UFC President] Dana White to decide the date. If he announces it, Anderson will be there to fight."

The idea Silva was trying to "weasel" out of his fight with Sonnen came about after a period of silence from the UFC middleweight champion.

After dominating Brian Stann at UFC 136, Sonnen made a public challenge to Silva, who merely sat and smiled.

"Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck," taunted Sonnen. "Super Bowl weekend...the biggest rematch in the history of the sport. I'm calling you out, Silva. It's time to up the stakes. I beat you, you leave the division. I lose, I will leave the UFC forever."

Following the challenge, Ed Soares, Silva's manager, went on record to state that Silva wasn't interested in a rematch with Sonnen, who came within a couple of minutes of dethroning the pound-for-pound king in August 2010.

Silva recently broke his silence and refuted Soares's claims, stating "only he can talk about his fights, his plans and his career."

All indications from White so far point to a rematch between Silva and Sonnen.

While Distak doesn't mind this matchup, he believes former middleweight title contender Vitor Belfort is a more formidable opponent than Sonnen.

"It would be interesting. Their games don't match, and Vitor has more ways to win. Sonnen does not have the game to beat either Vitor or Anderson. He's been submitted by three Brazilians: Paulo Filho caught him in an armbar, Demian Maia with a triangle choke and Anderson was the latest. Now, it's Vitor's time to knock out or submit Sonnen."
