2011 Fantasy Football Deep Sleepers for Week 8 to Consider

James Hatfield Oct 26, 2011

We are still drudging through the bye weeks, and everyone is in need of deep sleepers to pull them through.  Here are some sleepers for your consideration in Week 8.

Alfonso Smith (RB, ARZ) - Tough first week after Chris Wells goes down, and there will be RBBC (running back by committee) in Arizona, but if you are in need of an RB for the bye week, he is a starter.  He will be much better next week against the Rams so makes a nice stash too.

Bernard Scott (RB, CIN) - Cedric Benson is serving his one-game suspension, so in steps Scott.  I like playing him this week and look to him to put up at least 50 yards and a TD.

Delone Carter (RB, IND) - Addai is off and on with an injury, and Carter is one of the only bright spots in Indy.  He isn't a bad start, but be aware that he could lose carries to Addai and be a bust for the week.

Roy Helu (RB, WAS) - Tim Hightower is out for the season, and Torain is not a reliable backup.  Helu is capable of taking a starting position and is solid in pass-protection.  He is a gamble this week, but one worth taking if there aren't any other options.

Antonio Brown (WR, PIT) - Hines Ward suffers from injury, and Brown steps up.  As long as Ward is out you can bet that Brown makes solid WR numbers for your fantasy team.

Jabar Gaffney (WR, WAS) - Moss is out, so that leaves Gaffney as the WR1 in Washington.  Washington's QB situation is not great, but if you are in a PPR league you can bet Gaffney will get five to seven receptions.

Michael Jenkins (WR, MIN) - As slow as he is, Ponder is looking his way and feels comfortable throwing to Jenkins.  Berrian has been excused from the team, so expect Jenkins to continue drawing looks from Ponder.

Jake Ballard (TE, NYG) - Consistently targeted by Eli with potential to get in the end zone make Ballard a solid bye week fill-in if you need a TE.

Andy Dalton (QB, CIN) - Dalton quietly puts up decent numbers and can be counted on if you don't have other options at QB and need a waiver wire fill-in.
