NFL Week 8 Predictions: Steve Smith and the Best Fantasy WR Starts

Chris TrapassoOct 26, 2011

NFL teams have become enamored with passing the football today, and chances are, you've seen a spike in production from the wide receivers on your fantasy team this season.

Week 8 has to bring more offensive fireworks than last week, right?

These receivers will have the biggest games this weekend...

Steve Smith

Cam Newton and Steve Smith are right up there with Tom Brady and Wes Welker as the most threatening quarterback and receiver duo in the NFL.

Smith currently leads the league in receiving yards (he's played one more game than Welker) and is averaging a ridiculous 21 yards per reception.

Who said Newton couldn't throw the long ball with accuracy?

Against the 29th ranked pass defense, Newton and Smith will connect early and often.

Another huge game for the revitalized No. 89.

Dwayne Bowe

We saw how much trouble the Chargers had with the big-bodied Plaxico Burress in the red zone last week, and now they face another physical wideout in Bowe, who's a better all-around receiver at this point in his career.

Bowe has been one of the main reasons why the Chiefs have won three straight.

He's caught a total of 18 passes in those three contests and has three touchdown grabs.

In this AFC West battle, Bowe will showcase his immense skill and athletic ability.

Calvin Johnson

Though the Lions have lost two straight, Johnson hasn't disappointed. He had five catches for 115 yards and a touchdown against the Falcons last week and seven catches for 113 yards against the 49ers the week before.

The Broncos secondary isn't a team strength, and it won't matter which Lions quarterback is throwing him the football.

Another 100-plus yard game for Megatron with a touchdown or two.

No big deal.
