WWE Fantasy Booking Week 2: Raw Edition
Every wrestling fan dreams of having creative control over the WWE output.
We all think that we have better ideas than the writers and that, if we were in charge of the show, ratings would soar.
We, as fans, know what we want. What we definitely do not want to see is storylines cut short, just as they are about to gather momentum.
This weekly series, a collaboration between myself and Alex Rivas, will attempt to book Raw, SmackDown and all WWE pay-per-views.
This is the third article in the series, we will detail the Raw two weeks after Hell in a Cell featuring CM Punk as the WWE Champion.
The first episode of Monday Night Raw that we booked featured the creation of a new stable for Del Rio, a WWE Championship match and yet more disruption caused by the Miz and R-Truth.
On SmackDown, Cody Rhodes competed with Randy Orton for the Intercontinental title in the main event while the Big Show returned to put Mark Henry through the announce table.
CM Punk in the Ring to Unveil New WWE Championship
1 of 16The introduction graphic ends and the show opens with the new WWE Champion, CM Punk, who defeated John Cena in the main event last week with the title on the line.
There is also a stand in the middle of the ring covered over by a cloth and the crowd senses what is underneath.
CM Punk: "Last week before I was so rudely interrupted by John Cena, I was talking about the changes that I would implement as WWE Champion. This ugly, outdated spinner belt represents the mediocre PG era of John Cena where television ratings dropped and PPV buy rates reached record lows.
That is all in the past and tonight I will debut a new WWE Championship title that will help to usher in the age of Punk, the "Reality Era."
Punk rips off the cloth and reveals the brand new Undisputed WWE Championship title, which is emblazoned with Punk's "Best in the World" graphic. He then discards the old championship belt.
"Every great champion needs their own customised title and this is the first step that I will take along the road to establishing myself as one of the great champions in this company's history."
Del Rio Comes out with Sin Caras to Confront Punk
2 of 16Alberto Del Rio: "Punk, you talk about greatness, you talk about becoming a great champion but a champion can only be considered great when faced with great opponents.
Last week you defeated John Cena but I have proven in the past that that presents no great difficulty!
Now that Cena has been forced to the back of the queue, I am claiming the No. 1 Contendership for what is rightfully mine!
CM Punk: "Alberto Del Rio, everyone! Del Rio, you may not know this but I actually have a lot of respect for you. I respect what you accomplished in Mexico and I respect your MMA background.
Ladies and gentlemen, this man would have competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, but Mexico could not afford to put out a team, which begs the question, if you are so rich and powerful, why could you not have funded them?
Another question that comes to mind is how did you manage to persuade Sin Cara Azul to join your little Mexican "Nation of Domination?' Unless Ricardo Rodriguez has lost a few pounds and now wears a blue mask!
But seriously I consider you a worthy opponent. I do not appreciate you, however, coming out and interrupting me so consider this an acceptance of the challenge, amigo!
Punk attempts to kick Del Rio but the "Mexican Aristocrat" thrusts Sin Cara Negro forward to take the blow.
Azul and Del Rio then pin Punk into the corner and start to beat him down.
Triple H's Music Hits
3 of 16Triple H runs down to the ring accompanied by John Laurinaitis.
Triple H: "Enough! As COO it is my duty to give the fans what they want, and I can sense that they would love to see Punk vs Del Rio at Vengeance!
But if you two want to give the fans a sneak preview here tonight, then I have a better idea! In tonight's main event, it will be Del Rio, Sin Cara Azul and Sin Cara Negro vs CM Punk and two partners of his choice!
The winner of this six man tag team match will get to pick the stipulation for Vengeance!"
Del Rio smiles to himself and leaves the ring with the two Sin Caras, as Triple H and Laurinaitis prepare to do the same, Punk grabs a microphone.
CM Punk: "Not so fast, Hunter Hearst Helmsley! I want to know what actions you are taking to prevent the ongoing disruption of the Miz and R-Truth. They attacked me last week on Raw, they have been invading live events all week and they showed their faces on SmackDown.
Someone keeps allowing them access to the building, someone on the inside is allowing them to do this, Triple H!"
Now if you can't realise that then you're more clueless and idiotic than I thought, but if I were you, I would conduct a very investigation of your employees, starting with the man standing right next to you!
Triple H: "Punk, I can understand why you're upset but I have it on good authority that Miz and Truth are not here tonight. Security has been doubled just in case and I can assure you that they will no longer interfere in your affairs. Now excuse me, I have a show to run and you need to find two partners for the main event tonight!"
Triple H leaves Punk looking disgruntled and suspicious in the ring while Laurinaitis looks shifty and uncomfortable.
Jack Swagger Versus Evan Bourne
4 of 16The first match of the night will pit Evan Bourne against Jack Swagger and both men are accompanied to the ring by their respective tag team partners plus Vicki Guerrero showing her support for the "All-American American."
Air Boom need to win back some momentum after being defeated by the Dos Sin Caras this past Friday on Smackdown.
A good match between the two showcases Bourne's status as an underdog and Swagger is put over as a former World Heavyweight Champion.
A scuffle on the outside leads to Dolph hitting the Zig Zag on Kofi on the concrete at ringside! This distracts Bourne, allowing Swagger to lock in the Ankle lock for the submission victory.
Winner: Jack Swagger
CM Punk Backstage Segment with John Cena
5 of 16Cena doing up his laces in the locker room and looks up to see CM Punk standing over him.
CM Punk: "Hey Cena—"
John Cena: "I know what you're going to ask me and do you actually think I would agree to be on the same team as you after you buried my WWE title reigns earlier on?
I heard what you were saying, that I represent mediocrity in the wrestling business! I have drawn more money than you could ever dream of, Punk! I have sold out arenas all over the world and I have become a role model to so many children!
If you think you can get away with disrespecting me then don't expect me to fight in your corner tonight"
CM Punk: "Wow, this is awkward! Cena, I wasn't going to ask you to team up with me tonight, I was going to say that Del Rio is right!
You have hogged the main event scene for too many years now and after last week, you are at the back of the line and you will not get another shot at this title until you have proven to me that you actually deserve it!"
Triple H enters the locker room to see Cena standing up to confront Punk.
Triple H: "I couldn't help but overhear that and actually, Cena, I have already booked you in a match tonight... against the World Heavyweight Champion, Mark Henry! And that match will take place right now!"
Triple H Attacked by a Masked Man in the Parking Lot
6 of 16Back from commercial break and Triple H is walking in the parking lot with a purpose in his eye.
Then out of nowhere a hooded stranger ambushes the COO with a vicious chair shot to the back of the head!
The "Game" falls hard and the cameraman drops his camera to go to the aid of Triple H as the masked man runs off into the backstage area.
John Cena vs Mark Henry
7 of 16Mark Henry enters first to massive heat which is contrasted by a huge pop for Cena.
The two man mountains lock horns and this match definitely has a big fight feel!
Henry dominates for much of the match, continually cutting off Cena's momentum.
When Cena finally does make his comeback and is halfway through the "Five Moves of Doom," he is distracted by the sight of the Miz and R-Truth in the crowd.
He turns around into a World's Strongest Slam which allows Henry to claim a massive victory.
Winner: Mark Henry
The World Heavyweight Champion is not finished with Cena and just as he is reaching for a steel chair, the Big Show rushes down to make the save.
Henry hurries to the back as the Big Show reaches for a microphone.
Big Show: "Mark Henry, I will not let you rest in peace until I take that World Heavyweight title from you! What took you 15 years to gain will take you three seconds to lose after this fist meets the side of you face!"
CM Punk Backstage Segment with Daniel Bryan and Ted Dibiase
8 of 16Daniel Bryan and Ted DiBiase chatting in the backstage area, discussing who could have attacked Triple H when CM Punk comes up to them.
Punk: "Daniel, Ted, I need your help tonight. You both represent the future of the business and I feel like it is my duty as WWE Champion to showcase the younger talent, something that John Cena has never done."
Bryan: "Punk, it would be an honour to team up with you tonight I have a score to settle with Alberto Del Rio!"
DiBiase: "A main event match on Raw? Who could turn that down? Thanks for the opportunity, Punk!"
Punk: "No problem! I'll see you both out there!"
Wade Barrett vs John Morrison
9 of 16Barrett gets on the mic before the match and cuts a promo in which he calls himself the next World Heavyweight Champion and the future of both Raw and SmackDown.
Morrison's music interrupts him and the two talented young superstars proceed to have a decent-length match.
Barrett wins with Wasteland after catching Morrison off the Flash Kick attempt.
Winner: Wade Barrett
Sheamus and Randy Orton vs Christian and Cody Rhodes
10 of 16This match has come about after the events from Friday Night SmackDown where Triple H placed Cody Rhodes in a No Holds Barred Intercontinental Championship match with Randy Orton.
Christian and his stablemates attempted to run interference but Sheamus hit the ring to help Orton fight them off.
Rhodes still managed to take advantage of the distraction to win and that brings us to this tag team match.
After a back-and-forth match, the heels win when Rhodes sneakily clocks Orton with the IC title and he turns into a vicious spear by Christian for the 1-2-3.
Winners: Christian and Cody Rhodes
Zack Ryder's US Title Celebration Interrupted
11 of 16Back from commercial break and Zack Ryder is in the ring to celebrate his United States title victory over Dolph Ziggler on SmackDown.
A classic Ryder promo is interrupted by Drew McIntyre who slowly walks to the ring outlining the reasons why he should be Ryder's first opponent.
Mason Ryan's music hits and the Welsh giant and makes a case as to why he should be the No. 1 contender.
Ryder is just about to make his decision when John Laurinaitis comes to the ring and announces that Triple H has been rushed to hospital.
He says that he has been left in control of the show and that he is booking a Triple Threat United States title match for Vengeance.
He also makes a match between Ryan and McIntyre for right now, telling the US Champion to join the commentary team.
Mason Ryan vs Drew McIntyre with Zack Ryder on Commentary
12 of 16Ryder puts over both men in the ring as formidable opponents and says that he cannot wait to meet both of them at Vengeance.
A short match that Ryan wins when he counters the Future Shock DDT into a huge Back Body Drop.
He then hits an explosive Spear off the ropes to pin McIntyre down for the three count.
Winner: Mason Ryan
Bryan and DiBiase Taken out by Miz and R-Truth
13 of 16We cut to the backstage area where two badly disguised men are assaulting Daniel Bryan and Ted DiBiase.
Their hoods fall down to reveal the Miz and R-Truth who have somehow made their way to the backstage area.
Security rushes in and the Miz and Truth high-tail it while the medics examine the broken bodies of Bryan and DiBiase.
Will they be able to compete in the main event?
Main Event: CM Punk vs Alberto Del Rio, Sin Cara Negro and Azul
14 of 16CM Punk comes out for the main event looking livid as he will now have to compete in a three-on-one handicap match.
Del Rio is smug and confident flanked by Sin Cara Negro and Azul as he makes his way down to the ring.
Punk puts up a valiant effort but the numbers game catches up with him as the two Sin Caras combine and eventually Del Rio tags in to finish the job.
The Cross Armbreaker is locked in and Punk is on the verge of tapping out when suddenly...
Kings of Wrestling Run in to Join Punk
15 of 16The Kings of Wrestling, Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli, run in to join forces with their old colleague from ROH.
Hero and Castagnoli clear the ring of the two Sin Caras and force Del Rio to relinquish the Cross Armbreaker.
The brawl spills to ringside with Chris Hero going after Sin Cara Negro while Castagnoli deals with Azul.
Meanwhile in the ring, Punk locks in the Anaconda Vise and Del Rio eventually is forced to submit.
Winners: CM Punk and the Kings of Wrestling
CM Punk Introduces Castagnoli and Hero and Announces a Submission Match
16 of 16CM Punk: "Allow me to introduce the best damn tag team in professional wrestling and two of my best friends, the Kings of Wrestling!
I sent a text to Claudio and Chris earlier this evening telling them I might need back-up if any monkey business went on backstage!
I was right and the Miz and R-Truth conveniently found their way into the building!
A Champion has to be clever and I always have a back-up plan! I am sure our esteemed VP of Talent Relations will not hesitate to sign these two talented individuals after he has seen what they are capable of.
As for the stipulation for my match with Del Rio, I made him tap out tonight and I will do it again at Vengeance in a Submissions Count Anywhere match!
The show ends with CM Punk and the Kings of Wrestling embracing in the ring as "Cult of Personality" plays in the background.
