NFL Power Rankings Week 8: Which Teams Are in Best Positions?

Chris TrapassoOct 26, 2011

It is not easy creating separation in your division through seven weeks of an NFL season.

However, a few teams are in a few good positions right now to both make the playoffs and potentially win their division.

Who are they?

Green Bay Packers

We knew the Packers were going to be very dangerous this season. Despite winning the Super Bowl, the team would be getting healthy after they lost a ton of starters to injury last year.

After five games, it looked like they would have some serious competition from the Detroit Lions. Jim Schwartz's team appeared to be equally potent on offense and scarier on defense.

However, Detroit has now lost consecutive games and their offense has since returned to earth. They haven't shown the ability to run or stop the run and Matthew Stafford could be injured once again.

Barring something unforeseen, the Packers should win the NFC North and lock-up home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco is three games up in their division through Week 7.

How's that for a good position?

None of the other three teams in the NFC West have anywhere near the amount of talent that the 49ers possess. Their defense and running game are both in the Top Six in the NFL.

It will take a colossal collapse for the 49ers not to run away with the NFC West crown and get that No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

They're getting it done, the old-fashioned way.

Got to love it.
