Week 8 Fantasy Football Rankings: Steve Smith, Calvin Johnson Lead Top WRs

Eric BowmanOct 26, 2011

Too often this season have fantasy football players been torched by opposing wide receivers, but it sure does feel sweet when you're on the side that's winning.

When fantasy players own wide receivers capable of scoring multiple touchdowns in one game, they know their chances of beating their opponents greatly increase.

Here are the top receivers in fantasy football for Week 8.

Steve Smith

The Panthers will host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, and Smith and Newton will be connecting on some big plays. Smith's career has be revitalized thanks to the rookie QB, and he has been one of the best wideouts all season long.

The Vikings are 29th against the pass right now, and everybody has seen how easy it can be for Newton and Smith to hook up on the deep ball.

Smith hasn't found the end zone in two weeks, but he will break that streak as well as catch over 100 yards for the second straight week to be one of the top wideouts in fantasy football for Week 8.

Calvin Johnson

Megatron has three games in a row with over 100 receiving yards, and that trend will continue when Johnson and Detroit Lions take on the Denver Broncos.

His QB, Matthew Stafford, is a little banged up, but even if he doesn't play Johnson will still score points.

He's been the best receiver in fantasy football this year, and he is the heart and soul of the Lions offense.

It doesn't matter who is throwing the ball because as long as Johnson is healthy, he will put points on the board.

Mike Wallace

The Pittsburgh Steelers host the New England Patriots, who happen to rank dead last in the NFL against the pass.

They may be fresh off a bye, but the Patriots will still struggle to stop Wallace from having a standout performance.

Wallace has a touchdown reception three weeks in a row now, and he'll continue to be Ben Roethlisberger's top target in Week 8.

His outstanding speed makes him excel with the deep ball, and he won't find any trouble against this less-than-stellar New England secondary.

Rounding out my top five for wide receivers in Week 8 are Wes Welker of the Patriots and Dwayne Bowe of the surging Kansas City Chiefs.
