NFL Week 8 Picks: Which Teams Will Just Keep Rolling?

Zach KruseOct 26, 2011

Look for these NFL teams to continue winning streaks in our Week 8 picks:

San Francisco 49ers (won four straight)

It will be interesting to see how the 49ers respond after spending their entire bye week hearing how good they are from most of the media. Until they beat Detroit, there was still some skepticism around this team about their start. That all faded away when they went on the road and beat the previously unbeaten Lions. The 49ers get the Browns this week, who are fresh off an unconvincing 6-3 win over the Seahawks. It might be closer than you think, but the 49ers should get to five straight.

New England Patriots (won three)

The game of the week is in Pittsburgh, where both the Patriots and Steelers come into their matchup on three-game winning streaks. You get a feeling that this could be one of those games where Tom Brady really goes on the Steelers defense like he has recently. Defensive coordinator Dick Lebeau hasn't had an answer for Brady in previous matchups, and he'll be without some of his most important chess pieces. After a week off to prepare, I'm picking against Brady and the Pats.

Kansas City Chiefs (won three)

It's hard to believe the Chiefs could be on any kind of win streak after the way they looked during the first three weeks, but credit Todd Haley and his team for finding a way to get back to .500 after the season looked lost. Now, if things go right, the Chiefs could be staring at first place in the AFC West by the time their Monday night game with the Chargers is finished. And you know what? I like them to beat the Chargers again on Monday Night Football this season. Philip Rivers has had a horrific start to 2011, and judging the way he threw against the Jets, I'd be willing to bet there is something wrong in his arm or shoulder. He just can't drive the ball like he used to. The Chiefs will take advantage in winning their fourth straight game.

New Orleans Saints (won one)

Following a tough loss to the Buccaneers on the road that dropped them out of first place in the NFC South, the Saints got the gift that is the Colts and Rams on their schedule. They put a college-style beating on Indianapolis last Sunday night, and the Rams head to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome fresh off getting roasted by the Cowboys. It won't be 62-7 bad, but the Saints should run their win streak to two fairly easily on Sunday.

Carolina Panthers (won 1)

Love this matchup against the Vikings that pits rookie quarterback vs. rookie quarterback. Christian Ponder finally got his chance against the Packers to show the NFL world that Cam Newton and Andy Dalton aren't the only ones who make some noise from the 2011 quarterback draft class. I'll be interested to see how he progresses from start one to start two. We already know the greatness that is Newton, so he needs little mentioning. In the end, it'll be Newton who outshines Ponder. Not a huge surprise, but I like what the Panthers to win at home against the Vikings.
