Week 8 Waiver Wire: 10 Players To Help Your Fantasy Football Team Win

Brian RoachOct 26, 2011

The Week 8 waiver wire is thin, but there are many players who can help you win your fantasy football matchup.

There aren't many teams on a Week 8 bye and with key injuries to starters, many reserve players are getting the nod to start.

The waiver wire for Week 8 includes multiple running backs, tight ends, and even some kickers that must be picked up to win your matchup.

They could be the difference between making or not making the top bracket of the playoffs in your league.

Terrell Owens worked out this week, but no one watched him, so don't look to him for any fantasy value until someone tries to sign him.

T.O. is a no go, but these 10 players are a sure grab to help you win.

RB Montario Hardesty: Cleveland Browns

1 of 10

Montario Hardesty is owned in 57.2 percent of ESPN leagues.

This week has been great for Montario Hardesty. His stock rose with a 95-yard game Sunday that included 33 touches.

He has been picked up in 31.8 percent of ESPN leagues already this week, so get him while he is still available.

Hardesty is projected for eight fantasy points, but of course he could get more.

RB Alfonso Smith: Arizona Cardinals

2 of 10

Alfonso Smith is owned in 5.3 percent of ESPN leagues.

He will be the starter in Week 8 if Beanie Wells can't play. If Wells does not return this week, make sure to pick up Smith.

He scored last week and only got five carries, so expect bigger numbers with even more touches.

QB Matt Hasselbeck: Tennessee Titans

3 of 10

Matt Hasselbeck is owned in 54.8 percent of ESPN leagues.

Hasselbeck had a rough go in Week 7 with only 104 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the Houston Texans.

But in Week 8, he has an easy task against the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have not played well all season, so Hasselbeck should take advantage of the situation.

QB Christian Ponder: Minnesota Vikings

4 of 10

Christian Ponder is owned in seven percent of ESPN leagues.

Ponder played very well against the Green Bay Packers last week, with 15 total fantasy points against a stout Packers defense.

Ponder should have another big game against the Carolina Panthers and maybe even get his first career win in Week 8.

WR Jabar Gaffney: Washington Redskins

5 of 10

Jabar Gaffney is owned in 18.7 percent of ESPN leagues.

Gaffney has had no fewer than 54 yards in a game all season, and his worst game was in Week 7.

He is going against the Buffalo Bills defense in Week 8, which means he may finally find his way into the end zone for the first time since Week 1.

WR Demaryius Thomas: Denver Broncos

6 of 10

Demaryius Thomas is owned in 7.4 percent of ESPN leagues.

With Brandon Lloyd now out of the picture, Tim Tebow has a new target, who he utilized in the final minutes to score one of two touchdowns against Miami.

Thomas had three catches for 27 yards, but one was for a touchdown and that is what makes or breaks a fantasy team.

Expect Thomas to score this week.

TE Visanthe Shiancoe: Minnesota Vikings

7 of 10

Visanthe Shiancoe is owned in 21 percent of ESPN leagues.

Shiancoe also scored last week and caught four passes for 45 yards.

With Ponder at the helm, expect him to look Shiancoe's way in Week 8 for a touchdown and more targets as well.

TE Jared Cook: Tennessee Titans

8 of 10

Jared Cook is owned in 6.7 percent of ESPN leagues.

Cook had his team's only touchdown grab in last week's blowout loss against Houston. So, if Hasselbeck is looking his way in a huge loss, Cook will mean even more when the Titans can win.

Cook will have another touchdown in Week 8 and over 40 receiving yards.

K Adam Vinatieri: Indianapolis Colts

9 of 10

Adam Vinatieri is owned in 32.7 percent of ESPN leagues.

The Colts were completely manhandled by the New Orleans Saints in Week 7. Vinatieri only scored an extra point on the only touchdown of the game for the Colts.

In Week 8, he faces a Titans team that should allow for field goal chances, which will allow him to register more points for your team.

K Olindo Mare: Carolina Panthers

10 of 10

Olindo Mare is owned in 6.5 percent of ESPN leagues.

Mare was able to help out in Week 7 with 18 fantasy points from the kicker position. He was 4-for-4 on field goals and should be a great option if you need a kicker.

Cam Newton has been very successful getting into the end zone with the run and the pass, but that should slow down and produce more field goal chances for Mare in Week 8.
