Week 8 Start Em Sit Em: Matt Hasselbeck and More QBs to Leave on Your Bench

Michael DixonOct 26, 2011

A general rule when the bye weeks roll around is that you can't be picky.

Granted, Matt Ryan, Jay Cutler, Aaron Rodgers, Carson Palmer, Mark Sanchez and Josh Freeman isn't exactly the most impressive list, although Rodgers is an obvious exception to that.

Still, that's not a terrible list of quarterbacks either. But despite that, you can afford to be picky at the quarterback position.

Most leagues require only one quarterback. Most teams will carry two. With 32 teams in the league, you can figure out roughly how many quarterbacks will be available based on the size of your respective league.

These are guys that you must leave on the bench. If they're free agents, leave them as free agents.

1. Joe Flacco

Monday night's performance was just abysmal. Flacco should be a better quarterback than this, but he's just not doing it this year.

Normally I would advise any quarterback going against Arizona. That's not the worst advice in the world, but it doesn't apply to all quarterbacks.

Until Flacco shows that he can lead the Baltimore offense on scoring drives, he belongs on your bench.

Hasselbeck started the season well, but Sunday's game against the Texans was alarming. The Titans' offense is just not clicking right now.

Unless they find a way to get Hasselbeck some help, they are in for a long season.

Now the natural argument in support of Hasselbeck is that Indianapolis' defense just got torched on Sunday night.

I am not saying they won't struggle a little bit, but Matt Hasselbeck is not Drew Brees and the Titans are not the Saints.

3. Matt Schaub

The Jacksonville defense has been impressive all year. I know that their record is bad and I don't want to overreact to one good week against the Ravens, but the defense has been steady.

Additionally, the Texans are still probably going to be without Andre Johnson and Arian Foster and Ben Tate showed on Sunday that they can be counted on to score a lot of points.

Look for a good game from Schaub, but the fantasy numbers won't be there.
