Georges St-Pierre: 5 Dream Fights for GSP If He Moves to Lightweight

Jeffrey McKinneyOct 25, 2011

Yesterday UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre's head trainer, Firas Zahabi told Sherdog radio that St-Pierre could cut to 155 if he wanted to.

Although St-Pierre is the current 170 lbs. champ, a jump to a new weight class would not be surprising.

St-Pierre has nearly cleaned out the division and has often said he would move up to 185 if he properly put the weight on.

If St-Pierre were to ever seriously consider a move to 155, there would be plenty of competition for him.

Here's a list of some lightweight dream fights for St-Pierre.

Ben Henderson

1 of 5

Ben Henderson is one of the best lightweights in MMA today.

Henderson is a former WEC champion who has looked good in both of his UFC fights.

Although St-Pierre would have a size advantage on Henderson, Henderson is aggressive and good at escaping submissions.

Gray Maynard

2 of 5

Gray Maynard may have just lost to Frankie Edgar at UFC 136, but he is still one of the best lightweights in the UFC.

Maynard holds victories over Edgar, Kenny Florian, and Jim Miller.

His heavy hands and good wrestling makes Maynard a threat to anybody at 155 lbs.

Clay Guida

3 of 5

Clay Guida perhaps has more energy than just about anybody in MMA.

From the moment he leaves the dressing room to the moment he has his hand raised, Guida is bouncing up and down.

There may not be a more intense or energetic person than Guida at 155.

Although both Guida and St-Pierre train with Greg Jackson, it would be interesting to see who gases out first.

Frankie Edgar

4 of 5

Frankie Edgar has had to prove a lot since becoming UFC champ.

He beat B.J. Penn twice, once for the title, and once for a rematch after people felt he lost the first match.

Edgar then faced the only man to beat him and fought to a draw.

Edgar faced Maynard again only this time he got his revenge and respect by many including Dana White

Although St-Pierre won't be fighting Edgar anytime soon because he trains with Renzo Gracie, it would be interesting to see how Edgar would fare against him.

B.J. Penn

5 of 5

Yes I know Penn is currently fighting at welterweight.

Yes I know St-Pierre has two wins over Penn.

But it would be interesting to see how they would fare at a different weight.

Penn is perhaps the greatest lightweight to ever fight in the UFC.

Although he is a former welterweight champ, Penn's had far more success at lightweight.

Although he's currently a 170 pounder, Penn's never been shy about moving back and forth between weight classes.
