NFL Week 8: Who's Hot, Who's Not Week at RB

Kyle SymesOct 25, 2011

The past week in the NFL saw a game that ended with a 6-3 final score, a 62-7 final score and saw a team win without scoring a TD.

As crazy as those final lines were, some RBs had some crazy box scores as well. We saw a return from a star, a breakthrough performance for a rookie and a Pro Bowl sized dud.

How did your favorite RB do this weekend? Were they hot, or not?

Not: Ryan Mathews

1 of 10

Mathews continues to be in a time share program with Mike Tolbert. Tolbert received more carries but also had less yardage.

What's more important is Tolbert is still getting the goal line carries and getting the ball in the endzone. Mathews is going to need to find ways to put a gap between Tolbert and him.

Final Stat Line: 13 carries for 39 yards

Not: Rashard Mendenhall

2 of 10

Mendenhall has been one of the bigger disappointments this year. His slow season continued against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Backups Mewelde Moore and Isaac Redman both had almost as many yards with half as many carries.

Final Stat Line: 13 carries for 32 yards.

Not: Daniel Thomas/Reggie Bush

3 of 10

A two for one special.

The Miami Dolphins as a team are in shambles. Thomas has all but been handed the starting position, and he's yet to show the Dolphins they made the right decision.

Luckily for him, Reggie Bush hasn't been able to get much of anything going this year either. The Reggie Bush experiment has failed miserably.

Now Bush has come out and criticized his teammates for their performance against Denver. Not a good sign.

Final Stat Lines: 19 carries for 53 yards (Thomas) & 10 carries for 42 yards

Not: Ray Rice

4 of 10

If you were expecting to see Pro Bowler Ray Rice on the field on Monday night, you'd be disappointed. Rice carried the ball only eight times in a game that was close until the final whistle.

Even if Rice won't say he's upset, Terrell Suggs is more than happy to speak up about Rice not getting as many carries as he should.

As Suggs said, "Feed the horse!"

Final Stat Line: 8 carries for 28 yards.

Not: Chris Johnson

5 of 10

Chris Johnson hasn't transformed into CJ2K this season. In fact, Johnson has transformed into anything but an overpaid player these days.

Many Titans fans believe Johnson has started to "run soft" since getting his guaranteed money.

Instead of simply defending himself, Johnson has deflected the blame on his teammates. Definitely not something you want out of your star running back.

Final Stat Line: 10 carries for 18 yards. (That's about $294,000 per yard.)

Hot: Matt Forte

6 of 10

The Bears coaching staff finally found some intelligence. They finally gave the ball to their main offensive weapon—and look what happened.

Forte responded with nearly 150 yards rushing. If the Bears want to keep winning games, they need to give the ball to Forte and watch him go to work.

Jay Cutler can't stay upright long enough to throw the deep balls Mike Martz wants to throw, so they might as well give it to Forte any way they can.

Final Stat Line: 25 carries for 145 yards and one TD.

P.S.: PAY THE MAN

Hot: Steven Jackson

7 of 10

Steven Jackson's final stat line may not look impressive—but consider the situation. The Rams' starting QB was out and he was facing a stout Cowboys defense at home.

The fact that Jackson managed positive yards is something to be proud of.

The past few weeks have seen Jackson look as healthy as he's been in quite some time. It will be interesting to see if he can stay healthy and keep up the production.

Final Stat Line: 18 carries for 70 yards and one TD.

Hot: Adrian Peterson

8 of 10

Just like the NFC counterpart Bears, the Vikings are finally realizing their best chance for a win is giving the ball to Adrian Peterson. They must've forgotten they had the best RB in the NFL while Donovan McNabb was under center.

With Christian Ponder taking over, the Vikings are going to be looking to Peterson to take some of the pressure off the young QB. Peterson responded with a masterful game against one of the league's better rush defenses.

Final Stat Line: 24 carries for 175 yards and one TD.

Hot: DeMarco Murray

9 of 10

This image was a common theme for the Cowboys on Sunday. DeMarco Murray got his first opportunity to shine, and he came through in a big way.

Time will tell if this was a one hit wonder against a poor defense, or if Murray has finally arrived but you can't say "I've arrived" in any better way.

Final Stat Line: 25 carries for 253 and one TD.

Hot: Arian Foster

10 of 10

Welcome back Arian Foster.

Foster had his comeback game in a big way. It wasn't just on the ground either; Foster had a huge day through the air as well.

For many fantasy football teams, Foster won their game for them with his performance alone.

Final Stat Line: 25 carries for 115 yards and two TD along with five receptions for 119 yards and a receiving TD.
