NFL Picks Week 8: Patriots vs. Steelers and Games Going over the Point Total

Alex KayOct 25, 2011

Betting the "Over/Under" point total in games is great for fans that want to get some action on a game but don’t trust the point spread or just hate the thought of wagering on certain teams to win or cover.

I personally hate wagering on division rivals or teams that I just don’t like for whatever reason and often find myself playing the over/under.

Who cares who wins, and you can root for a defensive battle or an offensive shootout. Both sound just fine to me.

Let’s take a look at some games where you want the offenses to bring their A game in Week 8 and go over the point total.

Patriots vs. Steelers: 51

This is a high total, but the Steelers have been clicking on offense as of late and the Patriots are always a juggernaut on that side of the ball.

The New England defense is atrocious and its secondary is one of the worst I have ever seen.

With Hines Ward likely somewhat hobbled, the Steelers will be using plenty of three-WR sets with Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown.

This athletic group will torch the Pats’ weak defense.

Tom Brady, Wes Welker and company will also do just fine against the overrated Steelers defense.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans: 40.5

I know you think this might be weird after the Jaguars held the Ravens to seven points last night, but it’s just logical.

Jacksonville’s defense isn’t very good, and the Ravens were absolutely atrocious on offense in that game.

Houston is capable of putting up tons of points on good defenses as evidenced last week against Tennessee.

I could see the Texans nearly covering this themselves, and their defense is weakening due to injury, which should let the Jaguars get more than field goals against them.

Washington Redskins vs. Buffalo Bills: 46

This game is a good bet to go over.

The Redskins look more dynamic on offense with John Beck out there now, and the Bills always can put up a lot of points.

Both teams have concerns on the defensive end, especially the Bills, and I could see this game being something like 30-27 at the final whistle.
