NFL Week 8 Predictions: Minnesota Vikings and More Road Teams That Will Win

Tim KeeneyOct 25, 2011

Here's a look at three NFL teams who are primed for road victories in Week 8.

Minnesota Vikings (1-6)

The Vikings are 1-6, sure, but they haven't necessarily been quite that bad.

If you take out their 39-10 shellacking in Chicago, the Vikings' other five losses have come by a combined 25 points. They've been in every one of those games but just couldn't finish them off.

The No. 12 pick from the 2010 draft, Christian Ponder, has now taken over for Donovan McNabb, and while he certainly had his struggles on Sunday, he gives more to this team than McNabb.

In just his first start, Ponder had his team in line to beat the undefeated defending champs. Also, a quarterback's job is always easier when he has Adrian Peterson standing behind him.

The Vikings get the Carolina Panthers on the road in Week 8 and Adrian Peterson should have a huge day against a Panthers defense that is giving up a generous 4.7 yards per carry. They'll be able to rely on their star for an upset victory.

New Orleans Saints (5-2)

Yikes, 62-7. The Saints certainly embarrassed the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night and now they get to face another winless team in Week 8 as they travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams.

I wouldn't necessarily put the Rams in the class of the Colts at this point. St. Louis' pass defense is much better, their run defense is probably just as bad and their offense, assuming Sam Bradford is back, is better.

Still though, this is Drew Brees. It usually doesn't matter who he faces, and the Rams' pass defense isn't that good. He should have his way again on Sunday.

If Sam Bradford is healthy, the Rams have the ability to turn this into a shootout, but I still expect New Orleans to come out on top.

Detroit Lions (5-2)

Despite all the attention Ford Field is getting for how loud it gets and for how hard it is for opponents to play there, the Lions have dropped two straight at home.

On the road, however, Detroit is still sitting at 3-0 and that's bad news for Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos.

Denver is coming off a road win, sure, but the Miami Dolphins are certainly not the Detroit Lions.

That Broncos defense is better than most people give it credit for, as they are giving up 5.5 yards per play which is stingier than the average D.

Still though, the Lions offense is quite talented. As long as they don't get one-dimensional and at least work Jahvid Best, Maurice Morris, Keiland Williams or whoever into the game plan, they should be able to move the ball and win this game.

Tim Tebow is going to have tons of trouble against this defensive line.
