NFL Week 8 Predictions: Which WRs Will Gain Over 100 Yards Receiving?
With some intriguing match-ups this week, it will be interesting to see which WRs can hit the 100-yard mark. Some of the elites have tough match-ups, but three of the following are much more favorable.
That said, here are four WRs who will record 100-plus receiving yards in Week 8.
Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh Steelers (vs New England Patriots)
Wallace is averaging over 100 yards per game and averages over 20 yards per reception, as well. This week the Pats will come into Pittsburgh for a visit, and they still have the worst-ranked pass defense in the NFL.
So, expect Wallace to burn Bill Belichick deep more than once while Big Ben buys time in and out of the pocket as usual.
Prediction: Seven catches, 115 yards, one touchdown.
Wes Welker, Patriots (at Steelers)
Surprised to see Wes Welker on this list? Well, it's actually a tough matchup for him as the Steelers' defense is solid. However, he's the exact opposite of Wallace, feeding on intermediate routes and soft spots in the zone.
The difference is that Welker averages more yards per game and has more touchdowns, but he's also just as good at getting yards after the catch. Plus, how can Wes go wrong when he's Tom Brady's favorite target?
Prediction: Eight catches, 125 yards, one touchdown.
Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions (at Denver Broncos)
This is the week in which the Detroit Lions will get back on track. Sure, Denver might have Tim Tebow, but they just beat the winless Miami Dolphins so nothing's proven yet.
As for the Lions, Calvin Johnson will annihilate the NFL's No. 19-ranked pass defense. And although CB Champ Bailey and safety Brian Dawkins are still studs despite their age, Megatron is a whole different athlete.
Not to mention that Denver's offense has no shot at keeping pace with Detroit's explosiveness, so expect the Lions to come out blazing and get the Broncos on their heels early.
Prediction: 10 catches, 150 yards, three touchdowns.
Steve Smith, Carolina Panthers (vs Minnesota Vikings)
Despite disappointing in both home and road losses, the Vikings are still a weaker team outside of the Metrodome. As for the Panthers, both of their wins have come at home, and they have given just as good, if not better, efforts than Minnesota has each week.
Therefore, WR Steve Smith will slash the No. 29-ranked pass defense all day en route to another Panthers' win. Even if Minnesota puts seven or eight into coverage, Cam Newton is good enough to buy time and let Smith get open.
Sure, Newton will feel the rush from Jared Allen, but one guy isn't going to stop Newton from connecting with Smith on Sunday afternoon.
Prediction: Seven catches, 105 yards, two touchdowns.
