NFL Power Rankings: Which Teams Are Ugly Beyond Words?

Andrea HangstOct 25, 2011

There are three winless teams in the NFL right now, and all three of them are playing the ugliest football we've seen all season.

The St. Louis Rams have ridden a wave of injuries and inconsistent play to an 0-6 record in an NFC West division that, at Week 7, has only one team over .500. Every step forward for the team seems to have two steps back accompanying it.

Their latest issue is an ankle sprain to quarterback Sam Bradford that saw him miss his team's Week 7 contest against the Dallas Cowboys; Bradford may miss his Week 8 game as well, which temporarily negates any benefit they may have gotten by acquiring wide receiver Brandon Lloyd prior to last week's trade deadline.

The Indianapolis Colts started off their season stymied by the ongoing neck problems and subsequent surgery of quarterback Peyton Manning that is likely to keep him off the field until 2012, but it's the way they've handled this setback that has them with an 0-7 record.

After seven weeks, the Colts can no longer just point to Manning's absence as the sole reason they cannot win a game. It's the team's total collapse that is to blame, a collapse that culminated in their embarrassing Week 7 62-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

"Collapse" might not be a strong enough word to describe the Miami Dolphins, an 0-6 team with the kinds of weapons on both sides of the ball to have a much better record than they do. It appears that the Dolphins have given up on the season; they had victory in their grasp in Week 7, with a 15-0 lead over the Denver Broncos with under three minutes left in the fourth quarter that ended in an 18-15 overtime loss.

For any other team, an 0-5 record serves as a slap in the face, a wake-up call. They had every reason to defeat the Broncos in Week 7. But for Miami, this game became a fitting example of how they've performed in the five games that preceded it, all wrapped up into one neat little 67-minute package. Clearly, the Dolphins are at the very bottom of my power rankings this week.
