Week 8 Waiver Wire: Why Fantasy Owners Must Add Knowshon Moreno and Tim Tebow

Zach KruseOct 25, 2011

A pair of Denver Broncos are near the top of the list for must-add players on the Week 8 waiver wire.

The obvious name is Tim Tebow, who struggled mightily for the better part of 55 minutes but led the Broncos back against the Dolphins and actually ended up with above average fantasy stats.

For the first 55 minutes, things didn't look good for Tebow or his fantasy stock. A couple of athletic scrambles had him over 40 yards rushing, but the passing numbers were atrocious. For a better part of the game Sunday, Tebow had completed just three passes for 24 yards. Ouch.

But as we all know, Tebow turned it on during those last five minutes and kept himself fantasy relevant.

By the time Matt Prater's 52-yard field goal—which was one of the more impressive kicks I've ever seen—sailed through the uprights in overtime, Tebow had accumulated 161 yards passing with two scores. He also added 65 yards rushing and a two-point conversion that tied the game. In ESPN standard scoring leagues, Tebow had the 10th highest point total of any player or defense in Week 7.

His own-percentage is going to go through the roof in the next couple of days, so if Tebow is available in your league, add him now. It's not always going to be pretty, and you don't have to like the guy, but he can be your missing piece at quarterback for the rest of the fantasy season.

In Tebow's backfield is Knowshon Moreno, who should be another required add over the next several weeks.

Starting running back Willis McGahee went down Sunday with a broken hand, and it sounds as if he'll at least be out one to two weeks. That should mean that Moreno takes over as the lead back in Denver for the time being. That's a good situation to be in with the way the Broncos offense is situated around Tebow.

The Broncos ran the ball considerably more than they passed last week against the Dolphins, which is almost unheard of in this age of the aerially-dominated NFL. Carries and touches shouldn't be a problem for Moreno over the next few weeks.

And don't discount the possibility of Moreno stealing away the starting job with a couple of big performances while McGahee is out. He's still a former first-round pick, and there's untapped talent and potential here.

Sometimes, all guys like that need is another opportunity. Moreno will get his in the coming weeks. Add him while the price is still low.
