Antonio Cromartie Proves That Jets Still Cannot Handle Success in the Slightest

Wes ODonnellOct 25, 2011

The New York Jets are winning again.

And, like usual, they can't stay quiet about it.

Following the Jets' most recent win over the Chargers, San Diego tight end Randy McMichael basically said that the Jets had little do with the actual victory:

"

We had them and we took our foot off the gas. I'm not giving credit to anybody. This is our fault. It had nothing to do with anyone on their team. The guys in this locker room, we lost the game ... The San Diego Chargers beat the San Diego Chargers. Nothing to do with the New York Jets. It's embarrassing.

"

Naturally that didn't sit well with Cromartie and several other important Jets like Darrelle Revis and coach Rex Ryan.

Cromartie, a Charger for four years, wasn't shy when giving his take (via NFL.com) on his former team:

"

When you're up by 11 points in the fourth quarter, and you can't even finish the game up, that shows what kind of team you are: a team that can't finish. And that's been San Diego the whole time. There it is.

"

There is certainly plenty of truth to that.

The Chargers have come up short time and time again and are still chasing a Super Bowl berth despite being one of the better teams in the AFC since 2005.

Revis went after McMichael himself saying:

"

Nobody was worried about McMichaels. Whatever his name is. McMichaels, McMichael. I don't know his name.

"

And Rex added some flare with a Ron Burgundy line from the film, "Anchorman," saying, "Stay classy, San Diego."

The high road move from Rex is quite a turn for him. He also promised to stop talking about Super Bowl rings and winning.

But his players, once again, can't help but carry on is his wake.

The Jets were certainly provoked in this instance, but eventually they'll realize that the only way they'll keep winning is by shutting up and playing football.

Just over two short weeks ago this team was riding a three-game losing streak and sitting with an ugly 2-3 record.

Now, after beating the hapless Dolphins and a questionable Chargers team (their four wins came against opponents with a combined 6-21 record), the Jets think it is safe to talk again?

Let me know when they prove their run game is consistent.

Let me know when Mark Sanchez actually wins this team a football game.

And for goodness sake, let me know when this team wins a game on the road.

Rex Ryan is taking the high road from now on and his team should follow suit. At least until they prove they can beat winning football teams.

After the Jets bye in Week 8 they'll travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills before hosting the New England Patriots.

This team will certainly have plenty to say about both matchups.

I'm more intrigued to see how they play.
