The Oakland Raiders Are Infected and Need a Cure!

Farris GunningDec 9, 2008

Now there are millions of articles and writings on how bad the Raiders are.  This article is going to focus more on the cure rather than the disease.

Since 2002, the Oakland Raiders have looked like a team in disarray!  We all know that!  First finger pointed always goes toward Al Davis.  I agree, until Al is gone, this team may always be fighting an uphill battle.

Here are some things that might get the Raiders back on track even though their owner is a loon.

1.  Al must incorporate a GM.  One that will have the balls to go against Al when needed, but always have his back.  If the GM doesn't have Al's back then he'll be out on his butt like everybody else, so that's important.  The GM and Al will work together on the draft picks, coaching staff, etc...

2.  The Raiders must put into place a coach and give him a chance to build a team.  Give him some time.  A coach needs time to establish a rapport with his players.

It takes time to mold them into a team, not individual players playing for themselves.  The players must trust each other and gain a concrete mentality to the teams expectations.  The head coach is like the head of a snake, cut it off and you kill the snake...  The coach must be in place with the fundamentals of what Al wants but turn the team into his own.

3.  The players need to play every down with heart!  The players must make the plays and make the tackles.  Of course this goes hand in hand with the coach.  The players are their own people and they make the plays, so they need to be held accountable for it.

In closing:  The Oakland Raiders go into every year looking good on paper.  They draft a lot of talent, they trade for talented players, and then... They come out and play football like a buch of self-centered children, with NO heart.

Note to Al:  Change your people or change your people mentality isn't working, put in place people to make your people better!  It starts from the top.  We all know Al Davis has forgotten more about football than most will ever learn, but it's time to put people in place to lead this team to a championship, it will take a while, but you must start from somewhere.

The Oakland Raiders need HEART!
