Alabama Football: Some Alabama vs. LSU Series Facts I'll Bet You Didn't Know
Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) In the ever narrowing field of bringing fans something about the upcoming Alabama vs LSU game that no one else is covering, let me toss out these facts.
The Alabama - LSU series has been played at six different sites. Years ago, both coaches felt that the exposure of playing in a different location added some excitement and generate better recruiting from different areas.
Alabama leads the series in Birmingham, where the Tide hosted the most home games, by a record of 8-5-1.
In Tuscaloosa, they lead 9-8.
And in the least known home game locations, Mobile is the only home site location that has an overall losing record. That record is 1-2-1. They played there in 1953 and 1958.
The City of Montgomery posted two games and the Tide won both of them. They last played in Montgomery in 1930.
Ironically, LSU has only played outside Baton Rouge once for their home games, despite many attempts to play games in New Orleans. Alabama simply dominates the series in LSU's home stadium by a margin of 25-9-2.
The one game they did play in New Orleans resulted in a draw.
Overall, the Tide dominates the Tigers by a margin of 45-24-5.
Since 1980 there have only been two shutout games and Alabama won them both.
In the last 50 years, Alabama leads the series 28-13-1 making it just over double the number of wins the LSU Tigers have in the series.
