NFL Week 8 Predictions: Why Tim Tebow Can't Save Broncos vs. Detroit Lions

Gabe ZaldivarOct 25, 2011

Tim Tebow emerged from the shadows to deliver a marvelous win, at least that is how Tebow apologists will paint it. A keen observer saw a shaky quarterback that will have a hard time against a solid Lions team.

For the next week, we will get two sides of the Tim Tebow story. If there is anything that can be taken from Tebow as a positive, it's that he gets fans engaged and polarized.

The bad part is that he gets them too engaged. Many will look past the nose in front of their faces and proclaim that Tebow is a winner. That's it. The rationale behind his Week 8 victory will be that he merely finds a way to get it done, like he was some Greek God that was predestined to win.

You simply can't let the fats get in the way. For one, Tebow looked awful passing out of the pocket for most of Sunday. He was shaky and the complete opposite of precise.

His passes were long or nowhere near their intended targets. The fact that the Broncos weren't hurt worse by his performance is a real puzzle. In the end, you have to thank the Miami Dolphins for losing the game just as much as the Broncos won.

This brings me to the second point, the Dolphins are atrocious. More than that, they have given up the will to compete. Tebow was a star for a few moments late and for that I applaud him.

However, I can't overlook his performance and see anything but disaster ahead against the Lions. Detroit may be on a two-game skid, but there is a lot to fear if you are a Broncos fan.

I have no doubt that Tebow can command a good amount of yards on the ground against the Lions. The fact that they are a stout pass defense is what gives me pause. Combined with an unrelenting pass rush, they will force Tebow to make some questionable decisions.

At the very least, we are about to see how Tebow fares against a versatile defense. The Dolphins game is nothing compared to what the Lions pose.

If he gets a win Sunday, I will no doubt tip my hat. I just don't see that happening. The Lions are too good at all parts of the field to allow Tebow's "intangibles" shine through. All of the tangibles rest with Detroit.
