Ravens vs. Jaguars: Low-Scoring Contest Makes Over/Under an Easy Bet

Richard LangfordOct 24, 2011

The Jaguars are going to struggle to get even a field goal in this one, and that leads to the under being an excellent play in this Monday Night Football game.

According to Bodog Sports the Ravens are 11.5-point favorites. There is an over/under of 39 in this game.

Why This Will Stay Under 39

The Jaguars have been held to 10 or fewer points in three of their six games this season. It would be unreasonable to expect them to hit double digits against the best defense in the NFL.

The Ravens defense isn't just the best in the NFL this season, they may be the best defense in years.

Baltimore is allowing a league-low 4.5 yards per play. They have done this by being strong against the run and the pass.

Football Outsiders has the Ravens ranked No. 1 in overall passing and rushing defense. As FO says, "No defense has ever finished the season at that level of play-by-play efficiency across the board."

The Jaguars are a one-dimensional offense, and the Raves will be able to easily confine that one bowling ball shaped dimension.

This is going to leave the burden of scoring on the Ravens. While they will put up some points, they aren't going to crack the 30 needed to go over.

The Jaguars have a solid defense. They are ranked ninth in passing yards allowed and 14th in rushing yards allowed.

Combine that with the fact that the Ravens will feel little need to do much scoring in this game, and you have a contest that is going to end in a final total below 39.
