Ravens vs. Jaguars: Which Rookies Will Shine on Monday Night Football?

Zach KruseOct 24, 2011

In Monday night's matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars, keep your eye on these four rookies:

Ravens

WR Torrey Smith

The second-round pick has given the Ravens a much-needed deep threat. Smith has just nine catches, but three have gone for touchdowns, and he's averaging over 26 yards per reception. Watch for quarterback Joe Flacco to take a couple of shots downfield to the speedy rookie tonight.

CB Jimmy Smith

Smith hasn't played since hurting his ankle during the Ravens' 35-7 win over the Steelers in Week 1, but he's returning to the field tonight against the Jaguars. Smith won't start, but Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he will get some snaps tonight.

Jaguars

QB Blaine Gabbert

It's been a rough start for the first-round quarterback, but that hasn't been entirely his fault. Gabbert's first start came in a monsoon in Carolina, and a week later he took on Drew Brees and the Saints in his first home start. Games against the Steelers and Bengals were tough tasks offensively. Now, Gabbert faces arguably the best defense in the NFL in the Baltimore Ravens. It might not be pretty again for Gabbert tonight.

WR Cecil Shorts

The Jaguars fifth-round pick has returned 12 punts for 50 yards this season. If Jacksonville wants win Monday night, they'll likely need Shorts to provide Gabbert and the Jaguars offense with good field position.
