TCU and Boise State Battle for BCS Recognition in the Poinsettia Bowl
There is a similarity between these two great teams that goes far beyond the last name spelling(s) of their two coaches Patterson and Petersen.
Texas Christian University is coached by Gary Patterson to 72 wins and 27 losses over just eight seasons, nearly 75 percent winning accuracy (a great record). Then there is Chris Petersen, who holds the football coaching reign on BSU in just his third year with a 36-win and three-loss record (an awesome achievement, to say the least).
The TCU/BSU offenses are different enough to keep fans on the edge of their seats. Boise State has a solid ground game and fierce passing attack versus TCU with a fierce ground game and a solid passing attack. These two powerhouses are football.
Special teams are uniquely similar as well, with yardage busting potential on returns, superior blocking tackling on both sides of the ball, and kickers that will also keep you guessing (always). They are among the best at what they do.
The similarity in superior defense prowess is what truly has these two teams ranked No. 11 and No. 9 and facing one another in what many people believe is equal to that of the Oklahoma-Florida game (which boasts two one-loss opponents). It doesn’t get much better than this.
Fans on both sides of the offenses, with their towels, clackers, and horns rooting for their gladiator(s) to kick literal butt, are in for the treat of their lives. Is this game not as equally exciting as the '06 Fiesta between BSU and Oklahoma? I firmly say so.
In many ways this BSU team and the '06 team are equal. As well, this TCU team is as good as it gets. TCU has talent, brilliant minds, and heart, and that is what it takes to be winners and champions. BSU holds the same attributes.
This fantastic matchup is only 14 days away and no doubt will weigh heavily on my mind and most likely yours. A suggestion for containing one's nervous compulsions between now and when the final second ticks away: Don’t contain them. Let yourselves go. This is our BCS game.
