Ravens vs Jaguars: Why Baltimore Will Absolutely Slaughter Jacksonville

Ryan PhillipsOct 24, 2011

The Baltimore Ravens are off to a 4-1 record and have proven to be one of the best teams in the NFL.

Tonight they face the 1-5 Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football and should come away with an easy win.

Even though quarterback Joe Flacco has not been as good as expected this season, the Ravens have still managed to be a solid squad. Flacco does need to get better if Baltimore wants to keep rolling. Through the team's first five games the 26-year-old quarterback has completed 89 of 173 passes—51.4 percent—for 1,278 yards, with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. His quarterback rating of 79.6 ranks 23rd out of the 34 players who qualify league-wide.

We all know that Baltimore's defense is the key to the team's success, and tonight that unit will line up against a team fielding a rookie quarterback in just his sixth NFL game. Blaine Gabbert is leading an offense that ranks dead-last in the NFL in passing yardage at 137.7 yards per game. That is the reason why the Ravens will win tonight.

Baltimore currently ranks third in the NFL in total defense, allowing just 286.2 yards per game. The Ravens are also eighth in passing yards allowed—209.6 per game—and third in rushing yards allowed—76.6 per game.

With Gabbert struggling with a 48.8 completion percentage, the Ravens should be licking their chops to get after the 22-year-old Missouri product. It could get ugly very early tonight, even if Flacco's struggles continue.

Expect the Ravens' defense to attack Gabbert early and often, while Ray Rice and the offense wear down Jacksonville's defense with a power running game. I have no doubt Baltimore will improve to 5-1 tonight.
