Tim Hightower Injury: Updates on Redskins Star's Week 8 Status and Fantasy Value

Adam WellsOct 24, 2011

The Washington Redskins have had a revolving door at running back all season long, with Tim Hightower and Ryan Torain splitting the starting duties in the team's last four games. But a knee injury to Hightower could give Torain the job for the rest of the year.

In the Redskins' Week 7 loss to Carolina, Hightower took a hand-off from John Beck and scampered for a short gain before his knee buckled. It did not look good, but there has not been an official diagnosis yet.

We will have all the latest news and information on Hightower's status as it becomes available, so check back to this page throughout the week.

UPDATE: Monday, Oct. 24 at 3:15 p.m. EDT

After much speculation, head coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Hightower is done for the season. Redskins beat writer Grant Paulsen posted the news on his Twitter page.

The Redskins are fortunate in that they have a perfectly capable backup in Ryan Torain, who has been used more in the last three weeks, but it does take some element of surprise away from what the team has been doing with their running backs in recent weeks.

Still waiting on an official word from the Redskins but the more information that comes out about Tim Hightower, the more likely it is that his season is over.

The latest information comes courtesy of Dov Kleiman from NFLDraftCity.com.

You could tell as soon as Hightower went down that it was something serious. It is still not confirmed by the team, but it appears that this injury is the worst-case scenario.

While there is still no official word on what Tim Hightower's status is for Week 8 against Buffalo, the Redskins believe that he tore his ACL and will be out for the rest of the season.

From ESPN.com:

"The Washington Redskins think running back Tim Hightower suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's 33-20 loss at Carolina, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Hightower will undergo more tests on his left knee Monday. X-rays taken Sunday after the game were negative, a league source told ESPN's Schefter."

This was the worst-case scenario for the Redskins, who are still trying to figure out what to do with their quarterback situation.
