Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire: Tim Tebow and 5 Winning Pickups

Eric BowmanOct 24, 2011

Week 7 of the NFL regular season may not be over with yet, but smart fantasy football players are already hitting the waiver wires to see which guys will be the best pickups for Week 8.

The Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Oakland Raiders, New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all on a bye this week, which means QB, RB and WR will be hot targets on the waiver wires this week.

Here are five players on most waiver wires that are sure to help you win in Week 8.

Tim Tebow

The Broncos' new QB had a great comeback win that assured everyone he will remain the starter in Denver. His performance was downright awful until his improbable late-game comeback, but it proved that he can be a strong fantasy QB.

Tebow is owned in less than three-fourths of most leagues, so if he is available in your league, now is the time to pick him up. He finished in the top 10 of scoring for Sunday's game, and Tebow will continue to be a force in fantasy football because of his presence running the ball.

Even if you don't need a QB, place a claim on him because then you'll have great trade bait.

DeMarco Murray

The Cowboys found their future running back yesterday, and chances are that Felix Jones just lost his starting job. Murray rushed for over 200 yards, and even though it's unlikely he'll do that again, he is still a strong pickup for Week 8.

Dallas takes on the Philadelphia Eagles next week, which mean Murray will be running wild. Yes, the Eagles had a bye week to regroup, but they're still going to struggle against the run.

Murray is owned in less than 35 percent of most leagues, so act fast and pick this guy up, especially if you have Michael Turner or Matt Forte, who are on byes this week.

Montario Hardesty

The Cleveland Browns gave the ball to Hardesty 33 times on Sunday, which is an indication that Peyton Hillis is an afterthought. He was hurt, but over the past few weeks, the Browns have been slowly moving towards Hardesty.

He didn't find the end zone, but it's clear he's the main man in Cleveland now, which means you need to pick him up. Hardesty is owned in is less than 55 percent of most leagues, and he will continue to get a large number of carries.

The Browns take on the San Francisco 49ers this weekend, and while they're a top three rushing defense, Hardesty will still get you a decent number of points, which is better than the zero points you'd get from leaving a guy with a bye in there or picking up a No. 2 running back.

Steve Breaston

Breaston is the clear No. 2 target for the Kansas City Chiefs, and over the last few weeks, he and QB Matt Cassel are really starting to connect.

The Chiefs have moved on from their horrendous start, and now they have a great chance of claiming the top spot in the AFC West, as they take on the San Diego Chargers this Sunday. Nobody would have expected this, but it's a possibility because Breaston has stepped up big-time.

Breaston is owned in about 35 percent of most leagues, and he is a great flex option for Week 8, especially considering how bad the Chargers just played this past week.

Cincinnati Bengals D/ST

The Bengals are fresh off a bye week, and they have the easy task of playing against the Seattle Seahawks. It's a loud stadium, but that won't affect their defense all that much.

Cincinnati surprisingly has a top-five defense in fantasy football, and we all know how putrid the Seahawks offense is. Marshawn Lynch may or may not be playing, which only bodes well for the Bengals.

They're owned in less than 40 percent of most leagues and will be a great addition to your team for this week as well as others.

Other pickups to consider are Christian Ponder, Michael Jenkins and Visanthe Shaincoe of the Vikings. If they can produce well against the Packers, it's clear they're worth the add.
