BCS Rankings: Clemson Tigers and More Teams on Upset Alert in Week 9

Tim DanielsOct 24, 2011

Following a crazy week of college football that saw two elite teams fall, several more BCS powers will be on upset alert in Week 9 as the undefeated herd begins to thin out. Here are three teams that will receive unexpected tests on Saturday.

No. 5 Clemson Tigers

Clemson is 8-0 and has three wins over ranked teams. The Tigers are not without holes, however. They give up nearly 170 yards per game on the ground, which could be a major problem against Georgia Tech's option attack.

Led by quarterback Tevin Washington, the Yellow Jackets are averaging 321 rushing yards and will attempt to keep the ball out of Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd's hands. If Clemson's defense doesn't step up in a big way, its perfect season will be in peril.

No. 6 Stanford Cardinal

Stanford picked up its most impressive win of the season against Washington on Saturday and now has to go on the road against USC. The Trojans haven't lost at home and are on a three-game winning streak.

The BCS still isn't trusting the Cardinal as much as the voters are, and that's likely due to a lack of big wins. They still have games against Oregon and Notre Dame in addition to next weekend's game, so there's still time to climb the rankings—if they can avoid an upset bid from USC, of course.

No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin's stunning loss to Michigan State could send its season into a tailspin if the Badgers don't regroup quickly. They have a road game against Ohio State next. The Buckeyes are coming off a big win against Illinois and kept it close with Nebraska and the Spartans in recent weeks.

The Badgers still have a chance to crash the BCS party, but it will only happen if they win out. There is no time for regret or disappointment. Ohio State has a strong defense, which will put Russell Wilson to the test after his worst outing of the year.
