January Transfer Predictions: 15 Players Sure To Be Busts

Thomas AtzenhofferOct 26, 2011

There are loads of January transfer rumors continuing to cycle their way through the papers. With so many destinations, players and clubs involved there are those high-profile moves that are sure to either be great or bust.

Bad moves tend to be a common trend, with some clubs having a whole window full of terrible moves.

Another issue with moves is that players may be great in their league and in their current club, but that does not guarantee that their transfer will be all roses and trophies somewhere else.

You can look at the example of once highly-rated Brazilian midfielder Diego tearing up the Bundesliga for several seasons and then moving to Italian giants Juventus and being nothing but a flip.

That being said here are some of the potential busts in the market if they were to happen.

Alan Smith

1 of 15

Newcastle are reportedly shopping Alan Smith around to send him on loan. The Sam Allardyce signing has not had the greatest career in the Northern reaches of Britain, and it is doubtful a loan or permanent move by him will produce much in terms or results.

Gabriel Torje

2 of 15

Udinese's Gabriel Torje, dubbed the Romanian version of Lionel Messi, has caught the eye of Arsenal and other clubs around Europe.

In all honesty, there is only one Messi, and that one and only Messi is supported by the one and only Xavi Hernandez.

Torje is not ready to rule the EPL yet, and if he moves too soon, he may completely fail.

Steven Jovetic

Montenegrin and Fiorentina striker Steve Jovetic has been on the radar for multiple clubs in the winter and next summer, but he is not ready to carry a team in England.

Andy Polo

4 of 15

Although 17-year-old Andy Polo has been linked with a move Arsenal or Liverpool as well as a trip to the Bundesliga, the Peruvian Premier League is not the EPL, and he would not be taking it by storm as easily.

Radja Nainggolan

5 of 15

Cagliari and Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan is one of the latest Manchester City targets to come across the wire. In most cases, he does not look like a permanent addition to the EPL.

Wayne Bridge

6 of 15

If his unimpressive loan move to West Ham last season was a telling sign, Wayne Bridge looks pretty much done. His £90,000-a-week wage bill does not help anything either.

Aaron Ramsey

7 of 15

Aaron Ramsey, while a great talent, is not set for a major move to a club like Inter Milan. It would most likely be Robbie Keane all over again with the ups and downs for a six-month stretch before he returns to England completely frustrated. He is much better served remaining at Arsenal where he has a role and makes a difference at the moment.

Carlos Tevez

8 of 15

Carlos Tevez has been linked all over Europe and parts of South America in the last few months. While he may look to be a great spark to a team, before to long he is a guaranteed bust.

His poor attitude and short man complex is more than enough to ruin any move that he makes within a year or so.

Michael Uchebo

9 of 15

Stoke City seem to be continuing to embrace the, "So your big and tall, Rory Delap can make a long throw to you in the box," method over VVV Venlo striker Michael Uchebo.

Sebastian Giovinco

10 of 15

Chelsea have expressed interest in Sebastian Giovinco from Serie A side Parma. Is he really up to the standard that the Blues will need to earn another title.

Danny Rose

11 of 15

Danny Rose has resurfaced from obscurity after his failed career at Manchester United and is now set for a trial at a return for Crystal Palace. However, 10 goals in the Blue Square Premier league is not the championship.

Andre Ayew

12 of 15

Andre Ayew has been linked with a possible move to Arsenal. However, when I think of the Marseille player making a move to the Emirates all that comes to mind are thoughts of another Marouane Chamakh.

Billy Paynter

13 of 15

Brighton Hove and Albion are in for Leeds striker Billy Paynter. However, there is a reason Leeds do not seem to want him as he has failed to produce the goods since his move from Swindon Town two years ago.

Pavel Pogrebnyak

14 of 15

Fulham are tracking 27-year-old Stuttgart attacker Pavel Pogrebnyak. However, he has primarily been a substitute player in Germany and is likely to only be the same in England.

Marko Marin

15 of 15

Germany and Werder Bremen midfielder Marko Marin has been linked with moves to both Liverpool and Tottenham. However, despite his meteoric rise to prominence as a future star, the track record for player moving from the Bundesliga to the EPL has not always been great.
