WWE Vengeance 2011: Teaser for The Rock Has Fans Ready for Epic Return

Donald WoodOct 24, 2011

The Rock is one of the greatest champions in the history of the wrestling business, and it’s almost time for the star to shake the ring rust from his frame and get back into the swing of things.

It was during last night’s Vengeance pay-per-view that the WWE started the return process of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, by officially announcing what most of the WWE universe knew already.

The rise of the IWC has really squashed the surprise of returns in the wrestling world, and most fans of the WWE knew that The Rock has been coming back for months.

No matter how much we expected it, there is still a legitimate feeling of nostalgia any time we see one of the wrestling legends return to the ring. Seeing The Rock montage was enough to get hardcore fans ready to go.

Survivor Series is coming back for its 25th event, and the WWE has decided to blow it out by making it the official beginning of the Road to WrestleMania.

With The Rock returning to the WWE, and a few other possible former champions returning as well, there is a good chance that most of the storylines through the next few months will be centered on older WWE stars.

I love the nostalgia pop like everyone else, but I am starting to grow concerned about the WWE’s dependence on older superstars—instead of pushing the hard working guys who put it on the line at every show they are promoted.

The way the WWE has gone about bringing back several older stars shows both that they don’t trust the young stars to keep the fans interested, and that they feel without older stars a PPV cant be successful.

While I could point to the success of Money in the Bank as exhibit A of why that's not true, WWE is starting to have the feel of TNA when it comes to riding the nostalgia train too long.
