BCS Rankings Week 9: Michigan and More Teams That Have No Business Being Ranked
At this point of the college football season it's time to start weeding out the legitimate contenders from the legitimate pretenders, and I think the Michigan Wolverines are one of many teams that need to be on the pretenders list.
They started the season off red hot at 5-0 but were exposed by a very good Michigan State defense.
The truth of the matter is the Wolverines offense can't function well against good defenses, and their defense just isn't good enough to stop ranked opponents.
Like I said, they aren't the only team, though.
Here is a quick look at a few of the Top 25 teams that shouldn't be ranked:
Auburn
To be fair to the Auburn Tigers, all three of their losses have come against very good teams. They lost to Clemson, Arkansas and LSU. The LSU Tigers are undoubtedly the best team in the nation, but the Razorbacks are pretty overrated in my opinion. And don't forget they barely survived the first two weeks against Utah State and Mississippi State. All-in-all Auburn is a decent team, but not Top 25 at 5-3 and two losses in conference.
Texas
Right now I am absolutely convinced that Texas is only ranked based off its name and tradition. The Longhorns have had issues at the quarterback position all year and can't seem to protect the home-field advantage. At 4-2 they are still ranked because their losses came against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, but they got blown out in both games.
Michigan
It's easy to forget about the Wolverines, who were on their bye week, but sooner or later they will be fully exposed to the college football world. This is a team that has run a gimmicky offense led by a great playmaker, but a horrible quarterback in Denard Robinson. The Wolverines were exposed by Michigan State for what they are. They look great against lesser opponents from MAC schools, but when it comes down to playing bigger, faster and stronger opponents, this offense just doesn't perform.
