BCS Standings Week 9: Why Clemson and Michigan State Will Vault Up the Rankings

If you aren’t familiar with what No. 5 Clemson is doing right now, then you need to stop calling yourself a college football fan.

The Tigers are a perfect 8-0 because of the best young quarterback in the nation and a defense that is outstanding at creating turnovers.

Sophomore QB Tajh Boyd is having the sort of magical season that few, if any, experts predicted in the preseason.

En route to putting up 59 points on North Carolina, Boyd had five passing touchdowns to five different players on Saturday.  

He shares the wealth and can also beat you with his legs (165 yards, four TDs) to make him terrifying to game plan for.

With the only key games remaining coming in the form of Georgia Tech and South Carolina, I fully expect the Tigers to go undefeated.

With No. 1 LSU-No. 2 Alabama likely to knock one of the top five off it’s perch, and No. 3 Oklahoma State still with No. 9 Oklahoma on the schedule, the Tigers will only continue to rise.

Speaking of teams on the rise…

No. 11 Michigan State just finished off the greatest ending in college football this season over No. 15 Wisconsin, and is now in the driver's seat to win the Big 10 title.

QB Kirk Cousins is a legit NFL prospect and is a top-five player at his position. He can make every throw necessary of an elite QB and has tremendous poise and leadership qualities.

The Spartans defense is incredible strong upfront, and the unit as been amazing at creating turnovers. They currently are seventh in the nation, allowing a mere 13.7 points a game and allowing a touchdown or less in four of their seven games.

With their only real test coming next week against No. 14 Nebraska, expect the Spartans to keep leap-frogging teams for the next month.
