NFL: Top 10 Performances from Week 7
Welcome to the NFL Hotspot for Week 7. This week saw many great performances from teams and players alike, as well as disappointing displays.
The New Orleans Saints put up 62 points against the Indianapolis Colts. 62!
Aaron Rodgers continues to be Aaron Rodgers and a Cowboy running back made history.
While their were plenty of performances worthy to make the list, the Hotspot for Week 7 will highlight the absolute best. Here are the top ten performances:
10. Steve Smith
1 of 11Cam Newton has been the best thing to happen to Steve Smith's career at this point and time. Smith's career has been rejuvenated.
He went off on the Redskins for 143 yards on seven catches. The Redskins just had no answer to stop this guy, but then again...not many have been able to this season.
9. Tony Gonzalez
2 of 11Tony Gonzalez didn't have a big day Sunday against the Detroit Lions, but he achieved a tremendous milestone.
Gonzalez became No. 2 all time in receptions in NFL history, only behind Jerry Rice. What a great achievement for the greatest tight end in NFL history. Congratulations Tony Gonzalez!
8. Kansas City Chiefs Defense
3 of 11The Kansas City Chiefs defense suffocated the Oakland Raiders on Sunday in their 28-0 win. They made Kyle Boller look so horrible that the Raiders had no choice but to turn to a newly acquired Carson Palmer. However, he didn't fare better either.
The Chiefs had a total of six interceptions, returning two to the house. They also added a couple of sacks to go along with those half a dozen interceptions.
Plain and simple, the Chiefs showed the Raiders exactly what domination is.
7. Michael Turner
4 of 11Michael "The Burner" Turner had a big day that led the Atlanta Falcons to a much-needed win over the Detroit Lions.
Turner had 122 yards rushing on 27 carries. After playing subpar the first few weeks of the season, Turner is finally playing like he did last year, and he is doing so just in time. The Falcons are going to continue to need big games from their back to keep pace in the NFC South.
6. Matt Forte
5 of 11This guy is the reason the Chicago Bears go. The Bears go as far as Matt Forte goes. He had 145 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries to help the Bears hang on against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London.
I think all of Chicago and football fans alike think that it's about time this man receives a new contract.
5. Greg Jennings
6 of 11It has to be an absolute joy to catch passes from Aaron Rodgers. Greg Jennings helped his Green Bay Packers stay undefeated against the Minnesota Vikings, catching seven passes for 147 yards and a touchdown.
Jennings has had a big year so far and should continue to do so with Rodgers throwing him the ball. Jennings also has very good hands, so any throws that come within his reach, he will more than likely haul them in.
4. Arian Foster
7 of 11This guy was clicking on all cylinders on Sunday. With the way Arian Foster was playing, the Tennessee Titans didn't really stand much of a chance.
The Houston Texans were able to beat down the Titans 41-7 behind Foster's 115 yards rushing and 119 yards receiving with three touchdowns. Foster is a dual threat that is difficult for any team to stop. He will need to continue to hold it down until Andre Johnson comes back.
3. Aaron Rodgers
8 of 11Week after week Aaron Rodgers just continues to light up opposing defenses. There is not much you can really do against him.
Rodgers was 24-for-30 for 335 yardds and three touchdowns to improve the Green Bay Packers to 7-0. It is very entertaining to watch Rodgers go to work every game. He is one of those rare exceptional quarterbacks that come along and we get the privilege to see him play.
Now for Rodgers and the Packers: Take a week off and enjoy still being the only undefeated team in the league.
2. DeMarco Murray
9 of 11Who holds the Dallas Cowboys franchise single-game rushing record? It's not Emmitt Smith or Tony Dorsett. The record now belongs to DeMarco Murray, who had 253 yards on 25 carries.
One of those runs was a 91-yard burst to the end zone that was the second-longest touchdown in Cowboys history. DeMarco Murray's history-making performance led the Cowboys to a 34-7 win over the lowly St. Louis Rams.
1. New Orleans Saints
10 of 1162 points! The New Orleans Saints scored 62 points on Sunday in prime time against the Indianapolis Colts. The Saints just obliterated the Colts in what was a dominating all-around team performance.
It's not often a team scores 62 points, therefore it is pretty much a no-brainer that the Saints are No. 1 for Week 7. Brees continues to put up outstanding numbers as he threw for five touchdowns and didn't really have to play at all in the fourth quarter.
The Saints pretty much put up points at will late in the second half, scoring even when they were not really trying. Poor tackling by the Colts and just poor overall play allowed the Saints to have a record-setting day.
The Rundown
11 of 11This has been the NFL Hotspot highlighting the top performances of Week 7 of the 2011 NFL season. We saw record setting performances that will forever be marked in NFL history and we look forward to another great week of football in Week 8.
