Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups: DeMarco Murray and Players You Need to Sign

Austin GreenOct 24, 2011

There were multiple breakout fantasy performers in Week 7, many of whom are free agents in your league right now. Here are three players you should pick up before next Sunday.

RB DeMarco Murray, Dallas Cowboys

The rookie out of Oklahoma had just 71 career rushing yards coming into Sunday's game against St. Louis. However, with Felix Jones out, Murray got the majority of the carries and didn't disappoint.

He ran for 253 yards on 25 carries, including a 91 yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Murray is currently owned in just 31.6 percent of ESPN.com fantasy leagues. You should still be able to grab him.

He'll get snatched up quickly, so you'll need to act fast.

Next week, he faces the Philadelphia Eagles, who are 24th in the league in run defense.

Murray won't go for 250 yards again, but he'll definitely rack up some fantasy points.

QB Christian Ponder, Minnesota Vikings

The rookie quarterback was solid in his first start, throwing for 219 yards and two touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers.

He is only owned in 1.9 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues, so it's almost a guarantee that you can pick him up.

I wouldn't start him until he shows he can put up these numbers with consistency. However, he's a good backup option.

WRs Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders, Pittsburgh Steelers

The two Steelers wide receivers saw more action than usual in Week 7 and were very productive.

Sanders caught five passes for 46 yards and a touchdown, while Brown had seven receptions for 102 yards.

Next week, Pittsburgh takes on New England, who are currently last in the league in pass defense (322.2 yards per game).

Brown is only owned in six percent of leagues and Sanders in 4.8 percent.

Both guys should be available and could give your team a big boost in Week 8.
