St. Louis Could Be the Biggest Winner in Suck for Luck
Miami, Denver, and Indianapolis are all terrible. Miami needs a quarterback no matter what. Denver desperately wants Tim Tebow to fail so they'll need one. Indianapolis may need one if Peyton Manning can't come back. There's a wild card and that's St. Louis.
The Rams could really improve themselves in a hurry if they continue to lose. They currently are the only team in the "Suck for Luck" category that have a franchise quarterback under the age of 25. Sam Bradford is the singular reason the Rams stand to benefit more than any other team in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Rams could possibly possess the ability to absolutely fleece a team a la the Herschel Walker trade or Ricky WIlliams trade.
The 2012 NFL Draft is not only the gateway to Andrew Luck, but opposed to last year's weaker draft, this is one of the stronger drafts of the past 20 years. That means the Rams have the ability to collect a king's ransom in draft picks and fill many positions of need.
Lets just say that Jason Smith is okay afterall and figures some things out. That means with the addition of Brandon Lloyd the offense may be set, especially with Mark Clayton coming back soon.
What does the defense need? You would have to think everybody beyond Chris Long, James Laurinaitis, and the safetys positions are up for grabs. Now, lets say Miami, probably the most desperate team of the group, gives up their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd this year as well as their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd next year. That gives the Rams some serious picks.
Immediately take Quinton Coples. No defensive player is better in an offense-heavy draft. Coples is looking like the only defensive player that may be drafted in the top-10 at the moment. He's a dominant defensive end/linebacker that could be lined up opposite Chris Long and take away some of the double teams that have been shifted to that side.
Robert Quinn is also already there, so one of them could be used at linebacker full time and there is a familiarity between the two.
They could grab a couple of corners in the second with Chase Minnifield and Jayron Hosley. Corner has been a position of need this year, especially with injuries and it could be taken care of early in the second round.
Right there you've solved most of the defensive problems.
Imagine what could be done with the rest of those picks. There doesn't seem to be any reason the Rams will do much, if any better than Miami or Indianapolis, but they do seem to be the only team that can right themselves in a hurry thanks to Andrew Luck.
