BCS Rankings: Kansas State's Stay in the Top 10 Will Be Short Lived

Brian MaziqueOct 23, 2011

Kansas State better enjoy their stay in the top 10 of the BCS standings now, because it will likely end about this time next week.

The Wildcats have had a great start at 7-0, and the most recent BCS standings have them at No. 8. That is one spot ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Sooners plummeted six spots after being upset at home by Texas Tech, who is now 20th. The Sooners will be angry, motivated and will play with tons of energy. The Wildcats are at home, and they have one of the nation's best offenses to combat Oklahoma.

The Sooners defense has some questions to answer, as that unit was the most disappointing against Texas Tech.

Collin Klein has been a dual threat all year, and he is one of the biggest reasons the Wildcats are the seventh highest scoring team in the country.

As high powered as they have been, it won't be enough to drop the Sooners to a second consecutive loss. Kansas State hasn't played a team all year as talented as the Sooners are on defense, despite what happened this past week.

Things will not get much easier after the Sooners game. The following week, Justin Blackmon and the now No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys will host the Wildcats.

In many ways, that game will be even more difficult than the game this week, as it is on the road. The Wildcats will face ranked teams for four consecutive weeks. If they split those games, they would have to consider this a hugely successful year.

The latter part of their schedule is just too strong for them to think about running the table. A 10-2 record is feasible and a more realistic finish for K-State.
