Oregon Football: Ducks Jump Up to No. 7 in the BCS Rankings

Joe PenkalaOct 23, 2011

With the new BCS rankings out, there have been some shifts to the top 10 after Oklahoma and Wisconsin lost.

The top five teams are LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma State, Boise State and Clemson. After the top five, Stanford follows and then the changes begin as Oregon comes in at seven, Kansas State at eight, Oklahoma at nine and finally Arkansas at ten.

As we looked at last week, the Ducks need help to get into the title game but some of those dominoes have begun to fall. Oklahoma and Wisconsin have dropped from the ranks of the undefeated, which now leaves six teams in front of the Ducks.

In two weeks, LSU and Alabama will go head to head in a huge game, Oregon will be playing Stanford and Oklahoma State still has a big game against Oklahoma at the end of the year.

What should concern the Ducks now is that one of the SEC's teams is a virtual lock for the title game and that after this weeks game against Georgia Tech, Clemson should ease their way into the ACC title game.

While most of this is far fetched and not a likely scenario, the Ducks did get closer to that end goal this week but what will be important is that they get healthy and take care of their own schedule.

Not only must Oregon keep winning but LaMichael James and Darron Thomas must be healthy and ready for their stretch run against Washington, Stanford and USC. If the Ducks have those two back and at a 100 percent they have a great chance of running the table.

For now, the Ducks must turn their attention to winning the day and earning a victory over Washington State this week at Autzen Stadium.
