NFL Week 7: 5 Things We Learned

Professor BushOct 24, 2011

NFL Week 7 was full of some new lessons learned and some others relearned.

1. Arian Foster is back.

For the benefit of the Houston Texans as well as fantasy football managers who drafted him as their first pick, Arian Foster is back. Foster topped 100 yards in both rushing and pass receiving to go with his three touchdowns. This helped the Texans regain first place in the AFC South and won the week for his fantasy owners.

2. When you throw the ball near Darrelle Revis, you do so at your own risk.

For the second week in a row, Revis picked off a pass and made a long return to turn the tide of a game in the New York Jets' favor. Many teams just avoid passing in his direction. But the Dolphins last week and the Chargers this week had a different idea, which didn't turn out as planned.

3. You need a backup quarterback on your team.

The Oakland Raiders proved this very well. It was not clear who the two people were that pretended to be quarterbacks this week, but they each threw three interceptions. Two were returned for touchdowns. Maybe by next week, the Raiders can come up with a quarterback.

4. The St. Louis Rams have muscled their way into the Luck Bowl competition.

It's a little early in the season for throwing in the towel, but it certainly looked like that is what the Rams did today. A slow lineman might have ripped off some nice gains with the large holes that the Dallas Cowboys' running backs saw today. If this were a hockey game, we might have said that the Cowboys looked like they were on a power play the entire 34-7 game.

5.  You can indeed win a football game without scoring a touchdown.

The Cleveland Browns' 6-3 victory over the Seattle Seahawks might take the prize as the most unwatchable game of the year. But rookie coach Pat Shurmur's team will take it, since their schedule is pretty brutal for the remainder of the season.
