Chael Sonnen and the Top Personalities in MMA Today

Jeffrey McKinneyOct 23, 2011

Chael Sonnen is many things.

Gangster from West Linn, Oregon, the true UFC middleweight champion, and everyone's favorite uncle are all things that Sonnen has described himself as.

Now Sonnen can add awards show host.

According to Fighter's Only Magazine, Sonnen will host the World MMA awards in November.

Sonnen is one of the most known personalities and perhaps one of the best choices for hosting the event.

Here's a look at the other top personalities in MMA.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller

“Mayhem” Miller may be known more for his tv show and antics outside of the cage than he’s known for his exploits inside.

Before coming back to the UFC, Miller hosted MTV’s Bully Beatdown.

Miller is also known for his crazy hairstyles and walkouts that feature Japanese school girls.

Currently Miller is coaching against Michael Bisping on the Ultimate Fighter.

Joe Rogan

Fear Factor host Joe Rogan has been working for the UFC since 1997.

Rogan’s known not only for knowing his MMA terminology and history, but also not being afraid to say whatever's on his mind.

This includes correcting partner Mike Goldberg often.

Rogan has a martial arts background, holding black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Taekwondo.

Nick Diaz

3 of 7

Chael Sonnen may call himself a gangster, but Nick Diaz plays the role better than anybody else.

Diaz is known for his mean mug, smoking pot, and skipping out on media appearances because he doesn’t care for “beauty pageants.”

Diaz may be the polar opposite of Georges St-Pierre.

While St-Pierre is known for being respectable and defeating his opponents by exploiting their weaknesses, Diaz tries to beat his opponents at their own game and causes headaches for his bosses.

Brock Lesnar

When Brock Lesnar first came to the UFC, he brought his WWE persona with him.

After defeating Frank Mir at UFC 100 he was loud, rude, and even dissed one of the UFC’s sponsors.

Lesnar has since been proven to be a quiet guy who likes a simple way of life away from the public eye.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

“Rampage” is one of the biggest personalities in and outside of the Octagon.

Inside the cage Jackson is known for his willingness to always keep a fight standing and his memorable slams.

Outside he’s known as a funny guy who often toys with reporters, plays video games, breaks down TUF doors and does whatever it takes to get as much of Dana White’s money as possible.

Jackson got some mainstream appeal when he decided to take a break from fighting in 2009 to star in the A-Team movie.

Chael Sonnen

Whether he does it for show or he really believes what he says, Chael Sonnen says some of the most ridicules things in the world.

The Gangster from Oregon has called out Anderson Silva on numerous occasions and has become the enemy of the entire country of Brazil.

Although it does not look like Sonnen’s career will be on the line, if anybody needs to face Silva next it’s him.

Dana White

7 of 7

Dana White may be the most well known and polarizing figure in all of MMA.

Whether you like what he has to say or not, White is one of the main reasons the UFC and MMA as a whole is the way it is today.

Unlike other sports figure heads, White doesn’t have a filter. Just as quick as he could be praising a fighter, he can criticize them and be on the verge of getting rid of them.

White doesn't hold any punches and won't change for anybody.
