Steelers vs. Cardinals: Halftime Observations for the Steelers

Joseph MerkelOct 23, 2011

The Steelers are facing a must-win game against Ken Whisenhunt and the Arizona Cardinals. With the Ravens facing two easy matchups in a row, they need to make sure to win the games that they're supposed to. With the Steelers' laughable schedule to end the season, they should be in prime position to carry a winning streak into the playoffs.

Let's take a look at what Pitt needs to do in the second half to put this game away.

1) Make Kevin Kolb look like Kevin Kolb and the Steelers should cruise to victory. Keep pressuring Kolb in the pocket and force the mistakes. It wouldn't hurt if Troy Polamalu could catch the interceptions that hit him in the chest. All-in-all the Steelers are doing everything that they were expected to do, as well as almost shutting down the Cards' run-game completely.

2) Rashard Mendenhall needs to channel the Rashard Mendenhall from week six. After a stellar performance against Jacksonville last week Mendenhall hasn't been able to get the run-game going quite yet. If the Steelers want to soak up the clock they'll have to get Rashard going on the ground. It will be interesting to see if Mike Tomlin works his other backs into the game in the second half.

3) So that Mike Wallace guy... he's fast. Like, really really fast. So far in the game the only Cardinal DB that has been able to hang with him is Patrick Peterson. Every time Wallace is being covered by someone else, Big Ben needs to get him the ball.
