WWE Vengeance 2011 Predictions: Zack Ryder's U.S. Title Dreams Will Be Squashed

Adam WellsOct 23, 2011

One of the most perplexing stories in all of wrestling this year has been the elevation of Zack Ryder to a mid-card spot with WWE. He will get the chance to win his first singles title at Vengeance, when he goes one-on-one with Dolph Ziggler for the United States championship.

Ryder's profile increased thanks to his YouTube show, Z! True Long Island Story, and a catchphrase, "Woo, woo, woo," but he was buried on television constantly and it was hard for anyone to take him seriously.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, fans started to take a liking to him. He was still a dork, but he was getting funny lines to say and was featured more on television.

Vince McMahon still couldn't understand why people were cheering him, so he kept putting Ryder in matches to make him look like an idiot and to get the fans to turn on him.

When that didn't happen, Ryder started getting put in more high-profile matches. And all that build and payoff will end in heartbreak for him and his fans.

No matter how we feel about Ryder as a performer, the fact of the matter is McMahon and the powers that be do not like him, do not understand him and are not going to put him over in a championship match on a pay-per-view.

The United States title doesn't actually mean anything in wrestling anymore, but it is just the idea of Ryder having a belt that will force McMahon to put Ziggler over in this match.

For those hoping Ryder at least has a good match, I can practically guarantee you that these two men will get no time to work at all. Plus, the fact that Ziggler is working twice on this show all but ensures that this match will be over in about three minutes.

Perhaps one day McMahon will learn to stop burying the talent that the fans have taken a liking to, but it won't happen at Vengeance, and it certainly won't happen with Ryder.
