Earth to Manchester United Fans: Time to Come Back Down

Hrishi TiwariOct 23, 2011

I 8-2 break this to you ManU fans, but Karma is a 61tch!

For far too long, Manchester United fans have been rubbing it in the faces of their rivals. For far too long, United have been exempt from the miseries that rival fans have had to endure.

"We are Man United and we will do what we want!" and such other chants have been testimony to the arrogance of the red half of Manchester (and Mumbai, Singapore, Twitter, etc.).

But no longer. A 1-6 defeat at home to your traditional rivals is a humiliation forever etched in the record books. Man United fans—welcome back to earth!

Every argument with a Man United fan would end in the number 19. Now it's time to turn that number around.

Of course, this does not mean much in terms of the title race. Nor does it reverse the past successes of Manchester United. But a 1-6 home defeat is a rare humiliation—unmatched by any top team in Premier League history.

Arsenal lost 2-8 to United this season at Old Trafford. That was a big shame for them, but at least it was away from home. There too, the away fans sang in defiance long after the final whistle.

Today, half of Old Trafford was on their way back home. A wise decision in retrospect as insult turned to humiliation only in the last few minutes.

As for the perennially gloating Red Devils on the internet, they are awfully quiet today!
