BCS Rankings: Texas Tech Barely Deserves Top 25 Spot

Alex KayOct 23, 2011

It seems like the Texas Tech Red Raiders are going to be back in the BCS rankings for the first time since 2009. I just hope they aren't ranked too high.

The AP Top 25 Poll has them at No. 19 and the USA Today Poll has them at No. 22 right now, which is a pretty good indicator that they will get some love from the BCS computers and Harris Poll.

While I don’t necessarily disagree that the Red Raiders should be ranked, I just don’t think they should be any higher than some one-loss teams out there.

The AP Poll currently has them ahead of USC, Penn State and Cincinnati while the Coaches has them above Cincinnati and Southern Miss.

I can’t see why they are ahead of USC and Penn State, who have proven to be legitimate this season and played very tough opponents, as both of their losses have been against ranked teams.

I think the Red Raiders should be between 23-25 in the latest BCS rankings. That would allow them to prove themselves and move up a bit against Iowa State.

Then Texas Tech must play Texas on the road and host Oklahoma State.

I don’t think they beat either of these teams but you never know, as nobody really thought they had a chance to upset Oklahoma.

The Red Raiders are a solid team but they won’t find that magic again this season.

Oklahoma State is far too good and disciplined to get beat in a shoot out and Texas should be able to handle their business with the home crowd behind them.

It was a great win last night by Tommy Tuberville’s boys and I respect them for having the heart to beat the No. 3 team in the nation, I just don’t have confidence they will be able to ever repeat a performance like that again this season.
