BCS Standings: LSU vs. Alabama Will Be the Real National Championship in Week 8

The intrigue over the BCS National Championship seems to be about over. With Wisconsin and Oklahoma being upset in Week 8, the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide stand alone.

Sure, Oklahoma State, Boise State, Stanford and Clemson are all undefeated. But this matchup will determine the best team in college football.

Whatever happens after that will be a fallout from this game. If LSU loses a close game, I don't think they deserve to drop below third in the BCS standings.

Many oppose the two meeting in a rematch for the BCS title. For that reason, the loser will probably be out, unless the winner has a misstep. 

LSU has Western Kentucky, Ole Miss and No. 9 Arkansas the rest of the way. Alabama has Mississippi State, Georgia Southern and Auburn.

The two teams can't play in the SEC championship. The winner of the Week 10 matchup will likely face South Carolina or Georgia in the SEC title game.

Georgia could be a problem as they are a young team that has won five straight, but for all intent and purpose, the Tigers and Tide should roll.

Can the NCAA effectively sell a LSU-Oklahoma State or Alabama-Boise State national title game? Especially considering college football fans will know that they've already seen the two best teams play.

The only saving grace will be if Alabama is blown out or blows out LSU. A decided advantage would put some distance between the winner and loser.

This isn't likely to be the case. The game figures to be close, as it should be—it is the real national championship game.
