BCS Rankings 2011: Oklahoma Deserves To Drop out of the Top 10 After Bad Loss

Bummer Sooner should be the cry from Normal this morning.

The Sooners lost at home against the Texas Tech Raid Raiders, an unranked and seemingly inferior team that came into Oklahoma and took down the previously undefeated team.

This loss not only will drop the Sooners from the Top Five in the nation, it will likely drop them from National Championship consideration and the Top 10.

This loss will have huge ramifications on Landry Jones Heisman trophy legitimacy as well. I can't think of a more damaging place on the schedule for the Sooners to drop a game.

They are further victimized by the void of a conference championship game. The Sooners simply don't have enough time to rebound from this defeat.

Then again, in this current structure of college football, the Sooners don't even deserve a shot after this. If every game is a playoff game, since there is no playoff format, the Sooners were effectively eliminated on Saturday.

If it wasn't clear that Alabama and LSU are on a different level, it certainly is now. I don't think anyone could imagine Texas Tech staying close to either of the SEC powerhouses, let alone defeating them.

The Sooners should find themselves at about No. 12 when the BCS Rankings are released. Why 12? The Oregon Ducks currently sit at No. 11 in the BCS. They are also a one loss team, but their one loss came to the No. 1 LSU Tigers on a neutral field.

Under no circumstances should the Sooners be ahead of the Ducks.
