Week 7 Fantasy Football Rankings: Tim Tebow and QBs Making First Start of Season

Richard LangfordOct 23, 2011

Tim Tebow will lead a fantasy football production list of four quarterbacks scheduled to make their first start of the season in Week 4.

Tebow is the only QB of this list I would consider playing on my fantasy roster. The other three appear headed for days filled with little production.

Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow

Tebow gets the benefit of playing the Dolphins college level defense. The Dolphins are ranked 29th in passing yards per game, and they have just generally failed on all levels.

This is going to make for some easy passes for Tebow, and will lead to the Broncos moving the ball.

Tebow always has the bonus of being able to add points with his feet. This will be especially valuable in the red zone.

Seattle Seahawks QB Charlie Whitehurst

Whitehurst looked good coming in for relief of an injured Tavaris Jackson last week. This week though he will be playing a solid Browns pass defense.

What is most troublesome about this matchup is the Browns pass rush. The Browns are fourth in the NFL in sack percentage, and the Seahawks have one of the worst offensive lines in football.

Whitehurst is going to be under pressure early and often in this one, and it will lead to a long erratic day.

Minnesota Vikings QB Christian Ponder

Ponder is facing a Packers pass defense that is ranked 31st in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game. That said, they can still rush the passer, and a Dom Capers defense is always going to be confusing.

This is not a recipe for success for a rookie QB making his first start. Adding to Ponder's problems is the fact that Minnesota has the 27th lowest sacks allowed percentage in the NFL. This could be a long game for Ponder.

Oakland Raiders QB Kyle Boller

Kyle Boller is in a pretty good position to succeed. The Chiefs have struggled on pass defense, and the Raiders have done an excellent job of running the ball and keeping their QB upright.

However, I expect Boller to be limited by the Raiders' game plan. They are going to run as much as possible, and there are even hints that the Raiders may work rookie QB Terrelle Pryor into this game. There is also the chance that Hue Jackson will try to work in Carson Palmer at some point as well.
